Issued at 348 AM EST Tue Feb 5 2019 After highs today from around 35 to 40, rain is expected to develop by this evening with freezing rain over mainly Lower Michigan where ice accumulations are expected. Temperatures will dip below freezing overnight north of the Michigan line, but then rise above freezing Wednesday morning, limiting the amount of freezing rain and icing. Travel north into central Lower Michigan and west into northern Illinois may be difficult into Wednesday as significant icing is expected. && .SHORT TERM...(Today through Thursday) Issued at 344 AM EST Tue Feb 5 2019 Concerns linger for the development of freezing rain tonight as surface temperatures fall below freezing mainly north of the Michigan line and as very mild air spreads north over a wedge of cold air. WPC models continued to support mild thermal profiles indicating virtually no chance for snow with warm layer temps generally between 5C and 9C. Sleet is also not likely given the lack of a deep enough and cold enough layer at and just above the surface to support sleet. Freezing rain is expected tonight, especially north of route 6 where travel issues are possible. Several rivers were in action stage early this morning and will likely see rises through tonight due to runoff from recent rains and snowmelt. Ice jams are also possible. .DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Wednesday through Monday. Freezing rain is expected early Wednesday near and north of the Michigan border where travel issues are possible until late morning. Rainfall through Thursday is expected to bring flooding on several rivers and flooding of some lowlands into the weekend. .SPOTTER INFORMATION STATEMENT... Spotter activation is not expected at this time.
