in Indiana...

  Wildcat Creek...Youngs Creek...


.A winter storm brought a combination of rain and snow across much 
of central Indiana on Saturday.  This, combined with an inch to inch 
and a half of rain that fell across central Indiana today is leading 
to rivers and streams rapidly rising.  Widespread flooding is 
underway and additional locations along the main stem rivers 
will occur later this week.

The East Fork White River will rise above flood stage near Seymour 
this evening, and it is now above flood stage at Rivervale.

The White River is expected to flood or be near bankfull, with the 
greatest flooding in the lower reaches of the river.  
Petersburg may crest 6 feet above flood stage early next 
week.

The Wabash River between Lafayette and Riverton will rapidly rise 
into flood stage by tomorrow morning, Thursday the 23rd.  Bankfull 
conditions are expected at Vincennes.

Flooding will affect numerous local and state roads, agricultural 
land, and some river parks and/or cabins.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  northern Randolph County.  Water is likely on SR 1 just south of SR
  28.  West CR 825 N east of SR 1 and West River Road west of SR 1 
  and possibly other county roads are flooded.  Little League field 
  in Ridgeville is flooded.  Noticeable agricultural flooding in 
  progress.

  River Bridge, CR 410W from US 50 to Vallonia, Newford Road, west 
  from Vehslage Road to the 5000 block east, CR 400E from Newford

.A winter storm brought a combination of rain and snow across much 
of central Indiana on Saturday.  This, combined with an inch to inch 
and a half of rain that fell across central Indiana today is leading 
to rivers and streams rapidly rising.  Widespread flooding is 
underway and additional locations along the main stem rivers 
will occur later this week.

The East Fork White River will rise above flood stage near Seymour 
this evening, and it is now above flood stage at Rivervale.

The White River is expected to flood or be near bankfull, with the 
greatest flooding in the lower reaches of the river.  Petersburg may 
crest 6 feet above flood stage early next week.

The Wabash River between Lafayette and Riverton will rapidly rise 
into flood stage by tomorrow morning, Thursday the 23rd.  Bankfull 
conditions are expected at Vincennes.

Flooding will affect numerous local and state roads, agricultural 
land, and some river parks and/or cabins.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

Issued at 153 AM EST Wed Jan 23 2019

Rain will come to an end this morning as a cold front passes
across Central Indiana today. Another arctic high pressure system
will then build across Indiana and the Ohio Valley...bringing dry
and but very cold weather to Central Indiana for the end of the
work week.

Snow chances looks to return to Central Indiana on Saturday and
again on Monday as a couple of clipper like low pressure systems
are expected to push across the state.

.NEAR TERM /Today/...
Issued at 153 AM EST Wed Jan 23 2019

Surface analysis early this morning shows low pressure in place
over Missouri...with a warm front extending northeast to northern
Indiana. Water Vapor imagery shows a plume of tropical moisture
streaming across TX to Illinois and Indiana...and then to the
northeastern states. Radar shows extensive showers in place across
Indiana ahead of the front advancing northeast underneath the
atmospheric river aloft. Strong southerly flow was in place across
Indiana with dew points surging into the middle 30s.

GFS and NAM show a very strong LLJ...near 70-80knts passing across
Indiana tonight ahead of the deeper trough to the west. Strong
Isentropic lift was seen on the 290K surface with favorable
specific humidities...over 5 g/kg for precip. Time heights and
forecast soundings also show excellent saturation through the
column this morning. By 15Z-18Z...dry air begins to enter the
column as the models suggest the departure of the LLJ...and the
arrival and passage of the associated cold front as the surface
low moves north of Indiana to the Great Lakes. Furthermore the
plume of moisture aloft will be expected to divert eastward as the
trough to the west nudges it along in progression. Forecast
soundings show strong subsidence and drying this afternoon in the
wake of the of cold front as cold air advection resumes. Still
some trapped cold air advection strato-cu will remain. Summing up
will focus high pop chances this morning and taper things off in
the wake of the cold front...keeping clouds around over the course
of the day. High Temperatures will be expected between 12Z-15Z
ahead of the cold front.

.SHORT TERM /Tonight through Friday Night/...
Issued at 153 AM EST Wed Jan 23 2019

Forecast soundings tonight through Friday night show a familiar
winter pattern...saturation within the lower levels with a steep
inversion in place aloft. Aloft the models keep a classic winter
pattern in place with broad troughing and cyclonic flow in place
aloft allowing cold air to spill out of Canada through at least
Friday night. Given the flow aloft and the lack of any anti-
cyclonic flow...we will expect the strato-cu to hang around for a
few days. Models suggest little in the way of upper support or
organized systems passing through the Great lakes or Indiana
through Friday Night. Although a flurry cannot be ruled
out...mainly dry...cloudy and cold weather will be expected. Look
for Friday morning to be the coldest as 850mb temps look to fall
to near -20c and 1000-500mb thicknesses fall to very low values in
around 505 dam.

Thus will trend toward a mostly cloudy forecast this period and
trend temperatures at or below the forecast builder blends given
the strong cold air advection and expected lack of any kind of
sunshine.

.LONG TERM /Saturday night through Wednesday/...

Models in general agreement that at least leave waves will pass
through the area over the long term. That said there are some timing
differences and the 12z GFS brings the arctic air further south of
the area next week.

With the model and ensemble differences, will not deviate from the
blend which has high PoPs and snow accumulation over especially
northern parts of the area late weekend and early next week. But,
again confidence is low at this point.

The arctic air should arrive by next Tuesday with otherwise mostly
slightly below normal temperatures.

Outlook: Gusty winds and Light snow is possible this afternoon.

Hazards: Winds may gust to the 30 mph. Snow is possible...with little
to no accumulation.

Timing: through the afternoon.

Discussion: Rain will exit the area today. Light snow is possible
this afternoon with little to no accumulation.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Thursday through Tuesday.

Outlook: Light snow is possible again at times from Friday Night through
Monday.

Much colder temperatures will return for late week into next weekend
with additional chances for snow. Wind chills may drop to colder than
10 below zero Thursday night into Friday morning.

Discussion: Additional chances for precipitation are possible
through the week and into the weekend as several clipper like systems
pass across central Indiana through Monday. Snow accumulations will
be minimal though.
