...The National Weather Service in Indianapolis has issued a Flood 
Warning for a portion of the following waterway in western Indiana...

  Wabash River...

.Lowland flooding is expected to develop along the Wabash River at 
Covington in western Indiana. One to just over two inches of rain 
fell across the local area on Wednesday on top of a surface that was 
saturated due to rainfall from previous days. Significant flooding 
is not expected. Flooding may affect low agricultural land and some 
river cottages. Flooding looks to end by Sunday morning.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by this afternoon and continue to
  rise to near 16.6 feet by late tonight.  It will fall below flood 
  stage by Saturday evening.
* At 16.0 feet...Low agricultural lands begin to flood.  Backyard 
  flooding of cottages on right bank starts a short distance upstream
  of gage.  Critical stage of Young-Neal Levee is reached.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Wabash River...White River...

.Many river locations are expected to remain above flood stage well 
into next week based on recent rounds of heavy rainfall and more 
heavy rain forecast...particularly across the southeast half of 
central Indiana. Moderate flood stage is occurring currently or 
forecast on the lower Wabash at Mount Carmel, on the White River from 
Newberry to points downstream, and on the East Fork White from 
Rivervale to points downstream. We will see a bit of a break from the 
heavy rainfall during most of the day today before a complex of 
showers and thunderstorms begins to impact western and southwest 
portions of central Indiana later this afternoon and evening. 
Unfortunately, widespread rainfall chances persist into the 
weekend...acting to possibly prolong or renew flooding across the 
area.

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

* At  9:20 AM Friday the stage was 14.3 feet.
* Flood stage is 8.0 feet.
* Moderate flooding is occurring and Moderate flooding is forecast.
* Forecast...It will rise to near 14.8 feet by late tonight then 
  begin falling. It will fall below flood stage Thursday morning.
* At 14.9 feet...On April 24, 2011 extensive flooding in progress with
  SR 450 between Bedford and Shoals flooded in at least 3 locations.
  The deepest location was just east of Williams near the RR tressel.
  The next deepest was at Coxton Rd where backwater from the river 
  extensively flooded Salt Creek.  The last location was west of 
  Williams near Dillman Rd where backwater from the river closed the 
  road.  To reach Williams one must use Ridge Road.  Extensive 
  flooding of many local river roads in Lawrence Co.

  move livestock and equipment to high ground.  State Road 550 floods
  on right bank and also between Trinity and Dover Hill.

  begin falling. It will fall below flood stage Sunday June 30.
* At 24.2 feet...During April 2013 when Petersburg reached this level,
  the water only reached the white line of SR 257 south of 
  Washington, but never closed the road.  Shoals only went to 11.67 
  feet during April 2013.  This is the first that locals can remember
  such a high stage for Petersburg and SR 257 remaining open.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Wabash River...White River...


.Widespread flooding continues across Indiana as a result of period 
of rain over the last two weeks.  Some areas have seen rainfall 
amounts in excess of 10 inches. The crest on the Wabash River is 
near Terre Haute and near Elliston on the White River. The crest on 
the East Fork White River is between Bedford and Williams.

Moderate flooding is ongoing or expected for the lower portions of 
the Wabash, White, and East Fork White rivers through the middle of 
the week. Two to three inches of rain fell across these areas 
Saturday morning which is leading to crests slightly higher than 
initially expected.

Scattered showers are possible today with most areas staying dry 
through Sunday evening before additional rain moves into the area. 
Rainfall of around an inch is expected between Saturday and Tuesday 
with dry weather expected for the rest of the week which will allow 
rivers to fall.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Persons with interests in flood prone areas that are not protected by
levees should take precautions immediately. Keep children from 
flooded areas. Motorists should travel high ground routes and avoid 
roads that frequently flood.

Many roads in southern Indiana will be flooded by several feet of 
water. Do not even think about driving through flooded roads..You 
will not make it.

  May 1990.  Of these 10 recent floods, 7 of them have exceeded the 
  25.8 foot mark with the January 2005 flood the largest since 
  January 1937.  Prior to May 1990, one must go back to March 1964 
  for a flood above 25 feet and back to May 1961 for a flood over 26 
  feet.  The greatest known flood to strike the Petersburg area 
  occurred in March 1913.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Wabash River...White River...


.Widespread flooding continues across Indiana as a result of  
periods of rain over the last two weeks.  Some areas have seen 
rainfall amounts in excess of 10 inches. The crest on the Wabash 
River is near Terre Haute. On the White River the crest is near 
between Elliston and Newberry. The crest on the East Fork White River 
is near Williams.

Moderate flooding is ongoing or expected for the lower portions of 
the Wabash, White, and East Fork White rivers through the middle of 
the week.  Two to three inches of rain fell across these areas 
Saturday morning which is leading to crests slightly higher than 
initially expected.

Isolated showers, maybe a rumble of thunder, are possible early this 
Saturday evening, then better chances of showers and thunderstorms 
will be with us overnight through Monday.  Rainfall of between 
0.70 to 1.25 inches is expected between Saturday night and Monday 
evening.  Dry weather is expected for the rest of the week, which 
will allow rivers to fall.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

...A Flood Warning continues for portions of the following waterways 
in Indiana...

  East Fork White River...Wabash River...White River...


.Widespread flooding continues across Indiana as a result of  
periods of rain over the last two weeks.  Some areas have seen 
rainfall amounts in excess of 10 inches. As of late Saturday 
evening the crest on the Wabash River was near Terre Haute. On the 
White River the crest was between Elliston and Newberry. And, the 
crest on the East Fork White River was near Williams.

Moderate flooding is ongoing or expected for the lower portions of 
the Wabash, White, and East Fork White rivers through the middle of 
the week.  Two to three inches of rain fell across these areas 
Saturday morning, which is leading to crests slightly higher than 
initially expected.

Other than an outside chance of an isolated shower, the next 
rain will hold off until late tonight, Saturday night.  Rain 
chances will stay in Indiana through Monday.  Rainfall totals 
during this time are expected to amount to 0.70 inch to 1.25 inches. 
This will prolong flooding and elevated water levels on area 
waterways.  Dry weather is expected after Monday for the rest of 
the week, which will allow rivers to fall at a greater pace.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Motorists should never drive into flood water. Turn around and go 
another way. Keep children away from flooded areas. Recreational and 
agricultural interests should remain alert to changing river 
conditions.

  extensively flooded Salt Creek.  The last location was west of 
  Williams near Dillman Rd where backwater from the river closed the 
  road.  To reach Williams one must use Ridge Road.  Extensive 
  flooding of many local river roads in Lawrence Co.

  feet.  The greatest known flood to strike the Petersburg area 
  occurred in March 1913.

* At 27.5 feet...In the City of Mt. Carmel, all local roads flooded 
  east of the levee except for South Division.

  Wabash River...


.The Wabash River at Covington in western Indiana fell below flood 
stage late Saturday evening.  The river is expected to continue 
falling Sunday, then level off for much of the rest of the week as 
more rain drains into the river.


Precautionary/Preparedness Actions...

Be alert to flood debris on previously flooded roads. Keep children 
away from flooded areas. Recreational and agricultural interests 
should remain alert to changing river conditions.

.SYNOPSIS...

After a quiet start to the day...chances for rain and storms will
gradually increase later today and tonight as thunderstorm clusters
track from the central Plains into the lower Ohio Valley. The active
and unsettled weather pattern will continue through this weekend and
into early next week with daily chances for thunderstorms and
unfortunately the threat for flooding. The expansion of high
pressure into the area by late Tuesday should bring a well needed
break from the rain and storms for the middle of next week. Much
warmer and more humid conditions will settle in by Sunday and
continue into next week.

.NEAR TERM /Today/...

Enjoying a brief respite from the wet...stormy and active weather of
late as skies were clearing from west to east early this morning as
a high pressure ridge expands into the region. 07Z temperatures
ranged from the mid 50s to the lower 60s through much of the
forecast area.

The break from the humidity and especially the rain is welcome...but
unfortunately likely to be brief for some. Focus is already on a
convective cluster over the central Plains early this morning
associated with a strong wave aloft on the periphery of an expanding
ridge. Some questions linger with respect to evolution of this
complex through the day but anticipate some impacts to parts of the
region from these storms by mid to late afternoon. The first half of
the day will be fantastic. After some patchy fog to start...expect
abundant sunshine this morning with comfortable conditions as light
E/NE flow resides across much of central Indiana. Periodic cirrus
may drift across the region but otherwise...a dry airmass will
persist across the Ohio Valley.

Conditions will begin to change as the afternoon progresses with the
approach of the aforementioned convective cluster currently charging
east across southern Nebraska and northern Kansas. The early morning
model suite is offering varying levels of evolution to this storm
cluster...with some of the 00Z guidance already misrepresenting what
is ongoing in the central Plains. A stout low level jet is fueling
the cluster early this morning as it rides along the upper ridge
periphery and the instability gradient. As the day progresses...the
axis of strongest CAPE values should eventually align into the mid
Mississippi and lower Ohio Valleys with the theta-e ridge likely to
follow suit. The convective cluster will likely ride this gradient
with the potential to impact the southwest part of the forecast area
after about 19-20Z before diving into western Kentucky and
eventually the Tennessee Valley by evening. Will focus highest pops
in this part of the forecast area for the second half of the
afternoon. Bulk of the damaging wind threat associated with the
cluster should largely remain southwest of the forecast area into
early evening with the exception of the lower Wabash Valley.

How convection evolves further north and east from the main cluster
remains uncertain. Several of the models are hinting at the upper
level wave tracking further north across the area despite limited
instability and the potential that the residual drier airmass has
some difficulty getting shoved out of the region. Suspect greater
impacts from storms will hold off for the rest of the area until
later this evening and beyond...but will carry lower chance pops for
much of the rest of the forecast area with the exception of
northeast counties which should remain dry into the evening.

Torrential rainfall and resultant flooding will again be the likely
primary concern from any convection later today with the focus on
the southwest half of the forecast area. All of central Indiana
remains waterlogged and any rain that falls quickly will cause
issues.

Temps...leaned closer to the warmer MET guidance for highs later
today. Low level thermals are supportive of temperatures topping out
generally in the upper 70s and lower 80s.

.SHORT TERM /Tonight through Sunday Night/...

It sounds like a broken record...but expect more of the same through
the bulk of the short term as central Indiana once again slides into
a favorable path for ridge rider convective clusters impacting parts
of the area...but timing and location of each remains low. A warm
front will lift north Saturday night into Sunday as the upper ridge
axis expands across the region...setting the stage for what is
likely to be the most sultry airmass of the season so far on Sunday.

The initial convective cluster should be well south of the region by
early to mid evening but an increase in boundary layer flow courtesy
of the nocturnal low level jet will likely enable new convective
development over the region tonight and into Saturday morning with
any lingering boundaries from the earlier cluster serving as a
focus. The most likely location for storms should once again be over
the southwest half of the forecast area closer to the more unstable
airmass. But enough uncertainty exists to warrant pops over the
entire forecast area. The loss of the low level jet and potential
for weak ridging should lead to a downtick in convective coverage
Saturday afternoon before additional development to the northwest
tracks into the region Saturday night riding along the northward
moving warm front. An increase in instability aloft and BL shear
support a potential for strong to severe storms Saturday evening
into the overnight.

The airmass will be noticeably more humid Sunday as the warm front
shifts north and the ridge aloft expands into the area. Should see
dewpoints rise into the low to possibly mid 70s and combined with
temperatures well into the 80s...CAPE values are likely to be quite
high on Sunday afternoon and evening as a wave aloft tracks into the
region on the back side of the ridge axis. BL shear and helicity
values are not overly impressive but should be more than sufficient
when considering the presence of such strong instability with the
approaching wave aloft and an increase in low level flow on Sunday.
This would support the potential for strong to severe storms yet
again with the possibility of a squall line tracking into the
forecast area late day.

While the details remain murky through the period...the potential
for additional rounds of storms will keep the threat for torrential
rainfall and flooding front and center. Precip water values will
gradually rise through the weekend and be hovering near 2 inches
over most of the forecast area again by Sunday afternoon and night.
Will continue to highlight flooding concerns through the HWO and
social media platforms with watches and warnings as needed.

Temps...once again prefer the warmer MEt guidance for highs Saturday
and Sunday as the MAV looks too cool and is likely being impacted by
convective feedback. As mentioned above...heat and humidity will
ramp up Sunday with upper 80s to near 90 in play across the
southwest half of the area. With dewpoints into the 70s...chance is
there for heat indices to peak in the low to mid 90s Sunday
afternoon. Lows will lift back to around 70 by Sunday night.

.LONG TERM /Monday through Friday/...

The coming work week looks to be a bit closer to normal
temperature wise as upper level ridging is in place much of the
week. This will reduce but not completely eliminate thunderstorm
chances, and they may be largely diurnal when the ridge is
dominant. There will be a brief period mid week with a dry
forecast.

The only significant system will pass quickly through the area
early in the week, with thunderstorms likely across much of the
area. Chances will then be slight to low range chance at their
highest most of the rest of the week.

.AVIATION /Discussion for the 21/06Z TAF Issuance/...

The main focus of the TAF period will be fog formation early this
morning. Confidence is now high enough to insert MVFR/IFR fog at
all TAF sites during the Fri 07-12Z time frame. Conditions should
then return to VFR after that through the end of the TAF period.
The only exception will be at KIND where MVFR will return late in
the period with the next disturbance. Meanwhile, winds will
generally be light and variable.

This hazardous weather outlook is for central Indiana.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight.

Outlook: Thunderstorms will impact the southwest half of the region
by mid to late afternoon with scattered showers and storms over the
entire area tonight. A few severe storms are possible. Patchy fog
early this morning.

Hazards: Damaging winds...large hail...heavy rainfall causing
flooding and lightning. Patchy fog.

Timing: Main storm chances mid afternoon into tonight. Patchy fog
through 8 am.

Discussion: After a dry and pleasant start to the day...a cluster of
strong to severe thunderstorms is expected to track into the lower
Wabash Valley during the second half of the afternoon. Additional
showers and storms are possible over the region this evening into the
overnight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Outlook: Periodic threats for showers and thunderstorms will exist
through Tuesday. Additional threats for severe weather and torrential
rainfall causing flooding will exist into early next week.

Heat indices will peak in the low to mid 90s on Sunday.

Discussion: A nearby frontal boundary and several upper waves will
maintain the threat for clusters of showers and thunderstorms across
central Indiana through the weekend and into early next week.
Repeated heavy rainfall over the same areas will likely cause
flooding problems.
