A frontal system is expected to sag into the local area over the
weekend, lingering into the early parts of next week. A low pressure
system may develop along the front, affecting the area towards the
middle of next week.

.NEAR TERM /Rest of Tonight/...
Issued at 942 PM EDT Fri Jun 14 2019

Adjusted PoPs to include low PoPs this evening for the sprinkles
that are moving through at the moment. Brought in thunder earlier
in the far west as a few storms are moving through central
Illinois toward the area at the moment.

Otherwise rest of forecast is in good shape and only made some
minor adjustments to hourly forecasts as needed.

Previous discussion follows...

Model data suggest some lift may begin moving into the
western/northwestern zones by the late evening hours tonight,
although the better lift may hold off until the pre dawn hours of
Saturday, as a 45-50 kt low level sags into northwest Indiana. Will
start bringing in chance PoPs to the west central and northwest
zones toward the late evening hours, and then spread them southeast
with time towards daybreak.

Low level thicknesses suggest the GFS MOS lows for tonight look
reasonable, so any adjustments will be minor.

.SHORT TERM /Saturday through Monday/...
Issued at 242 PM EDT Fri Jun 14 2019

Pattern remains favorable for convective clusters to form or
propagate through the forecast area this weekend, given a frontal
system sagging south from the Great Lakes, coupled with a 35-45 kt
850mb jet and steep mid level lapse rates advecting into the area
from an EML plume off to the southwest. Confidence in timing and
location of these clusters is low, as they will probably be tied to
instability gradients along convective outflows, rather that the
actual front. Precipitable waters around 1.75 inches suggest heavy
rainfall will be a threat with any clusters that may affect the
area. Given the low confidence in timing and location of these
potential features at this time, will hold off on any flood
headlines.

Convective threat may tend to diminish towards Monday, as models
begin to shove the synoptic front, and higher precipitable waters,
closer to and south of the Ohio River. The low level jet is also
progged to weaken by that time.

Given the expected clouds and rainfall, the GFS MOS highs for
Saturday and Sunday may end up being too warm. However, with low
confidence in timing and location of convective clusters, won't
stray too far from the guidance at this time.

.LONG TERM /Tuesday through Friday/...

Models and ensembles in general agreement that a nearby quasi-
stationary front along with several waves of low pressure, deep
moisture and instability support PoPs throughout the long term. The
best chances look to be Tuesday and Wednesday through Thursday
morning as the strongest waves move through. The OHRFC, WPC and NBM
all support the potential for heavy rain at times along with at the
minimum minor river flooding. However, more serious river flooding
and short fuse flooding is certainly possible as WPC and NBM suggest
some areas could see storm total accumulation over 5 inches over the
next 7 days.

With convection and plenty of cloud cover expected, look for normal
or below temperatures per the blend.

A period of MVFR conditions are expected during the day Saturday.
Periods of showers and some thunderstorms can be expected throughout
the TAF valid time. Low level wind shear may be an issue overnight
tonight and again Saturday night.

A frontal system will move into the area and stall out. Passing
upper waves will generate periods of showers with some thunderstorms
at the sites through the period. Widespread MVFR looks likely during
the day Saturday, but even lower conditions are possible in
convection.

Discussion: An approaching frontal system will bring chances for
showers and a few thunderstorms to parts of the area late tonight.

Outlook: Thunderstorms are possible at times from Saturday through
the middle of next week. A few severe storms are possible Saturday
and Sunday. Heavy rainfall leading to flooding is possible from this
weekend through next week.

Discussion: A front stalling across central Indiana will bring
several rounds of showers and thunderstorms to the area for the
weekend and into next week. Some of the storms could be strong to
severe Saturday and Sunday, but the main threat from this system will
likely be flooding that could come out of several rounds of moderate
to heavy rain.
