Only adjustment needed was to timing of precip...which slowed down a tad. Other than that remainder of the forecast looks in good order. Did not make any changes to precip type across the north where rain/snow mix is still expected late tonight and early tomorrow. Did update the grids, but no need for update to the wording. && .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Sunday) ISSUED AT 316 PM CDT Sat Apr 13 2019 A narrow ridge of high pressure is slowly giving way to an encroaching system from the SW, rain out ahead of the system is already creeping into southern IL. A deepening low pressure system currently over the Southern Plains is expected to lift northward into the Midwest tonight, bringing not only rain, but a chance for snow, mainly NW of the Illinois River Valley. Warm ground temperatures and more rain guarantees that the snow won't last long... but still may see some accumulations of 1 to 2 inches in northwestern portions of the state. Models are varied on total accumulations overall, with an inconsistent thermal profile, and uncertainty in the track from run to run. The mechanism for the snow in the overnight and early tomorrow is still within a deformation zone NW of the low, with evaporative cooling from rain formation finally switching to snow. SLRs still a little below seasonal averages...and expect a wet snow, less fluffy...more slushy. However, not likely to last long, making accurate measurements difficult. Overnight lows tonight are expected to remain in the 30s and 40s with the rain and not making it out of the 40s for high temps tomorrow with the prolonged rainfall and north/northeasterly flow into the area. .LONG TERM...(Sunday night through Saturday) ISSUED AT 316 PM CDT Sat Apr 13 2019 Forecast rebounds through the first few days of next week. Monday is slightly more modest of an increase in daytime highs with partly sunny conditions, but an increase of light southerly winds by the end of the day. Temperatures actually climb quickly into the 70s with continued warm air advection at the surface, and aloft as the midlevels switch to a more southwesterly pattern. Another wave arrives on the Pac NW coast on Tuesday, diving into the SW...before the surface low develops over the Rockies and moves into the Midwest by Wed night. This system has more moisture associated with it and at least for now, looks to be an efficient rain producer. Still concerned about the overdevelopment of the system in the models, and the QPF is starting to reflect a downward trend. Front passes Thu night/Friday...bringing cooler temps going into the weekend. && .AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Sunday evening) Issued at 657 PM CDT Sat Apr 13 2019 VFR conditions to start the forecast period for all TAFs. However, light rain will begin to move into the area from the south and affect SPI/DEC/CMI around 04z. MVFR cigs will then arrive around 07z as rain will begin to pick up and vis will drop to around 4sm at SPI/DEC/CMI. BMI will see precip arrive around 07z and then cigs will drop to IFR around 11z. PIA will see just VCSH at 07z but then a mix of rain and snow from 11z to 17z. BMI will also have mix of rain and snow 11-19z. Not expecting any accumulation on hard surfaces as snow will be very wet and ground is warm. Mix of rain and snow could also end sooner at these two sites as to what is in TAFs. SPI/DEC/CMI will also see cigs drop to below 1kft during the morning hours with light rain and then VCSH late morning til around noon...with cigs becoming MVFR for the rest of the period. BMI and PIA will also improve with better cigs around noon and higher MVFR cigs in afternoon. Winds will be northeast through the night and then become north tomorrow morning and through the day.
