Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Lincoln IL 543 AM CDT Sat Mar 30 2019 .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight) ISSUED AT 330 AM CDT Sat Mar 30 2019 08z/3am surface analysis shows nearly stationary frontal boundary bisecting the KILX CWA...extending from just north of Danville to near Pittsfield. To the north of the boundary, temperatures have dropped into the lower to middle 40s. Meanwhile south of the front, readings are hovering in the upper 50s to around 60 degrees. Low pressure tracking along the front is responsible for a large area of rain across the region...with a few thunderstorms noted along the southern edge of the rain area along/south of I-70. Once the low tracks into west-central Indiana, the wave of rain will shift eastward into the Ohio River Valley and the trailing front will get dragged southward. 00z Mar 30 models agree that a second weaker area of low pressure will track along the slowly departing front later today, resulting in a renewed wave of rain from late morning into the afternoon. Based on the expected position of the front, think most of this rain will occur along/south of a Champaign to Taylorville line where likely to categorical PoPs will persist into the afternoon. Further north and west, overcast conditions with scattered light showers are anticipated. High temperatures will be achieved early this morning along/south of I-70 where readings will initially be in the upper 50s: however, once the front passes, temps will quickly drop back into the 40s. Further north across the remainder of the area, am expecting temps to remain nearly stationary in the lower to middle 40s for the balance of the day. A few showers will linger across the E/SE CWA into early evening before the secondary low pulls away and all precip comes to an end before midnight. Skies will then clear from west to east tonight, with overnight lows dropping into the middle to upper 20s across the board. .LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday) ISSUED AT 330 AM CDT Sat Mar 30 2019 After a period of cool/dry weather on Sunday with highs in the 40s, a marked warming trend will take place through the middle of next week. Other than a minor disturbance that could generate a few light showers across the far north Tuesday morning, conditions will remain dry through Wednesday. Temperatures will warm each day, with highs reaching the lower to middle 60s by Wednesday. After that, a frontal boundary will sag into the region...resulting in unsettled weather for the end of the week. && .AVIATION...(For the 12Z TAFS through 12Z Sunday morning) Issued at 543 AM CDT Sat Mar 30 2019 Rain continues to fall across much of central Illinois early this morning: however, latest radar imagery shows the precip becoming lighter and more scattered in nature. While this initial wave of rain will push into Indiana over the next couple of hours, a second wave currently over southwest Missouri will spread into the area by around midday...impacting mainly KDEC/KCMI into the afternoon. IFR ceilings will initially be in place, with forecast soundings suggesting improvement to MVFR at KPIA by 12z and further southeast to KDEC by 19z. Once the secondary wave departs, any lingering showers will come to an end and skies will clear from northwest to southeast late this afternoon into this evening.
