Although breaks will likely develop in the cloud cover this afternoon more widespread clearing will likely need to wait until northern stream shortwave on the backside of the main eastern NA trough finally rotates through late tonight. Clouds around today and continued CAA will keep temps on the cool side. Gusty winds today will add to the bite in the air keeping wind chills mostly in the 20s much of the day. && .LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday) ISSUED AT 158 AM CST Sun Mar 10 2019 Models in relatively good agreement this cycle. As energy dives down the west coast, a shortwave ridge builds up over the Mississippi Valley through Tuesday brining a slow warming trend and dry conditions. Clouds streaming ahead of the initial shortwave ejecting from western U.S. trough may temper temps a bit on Tuesday. Strongest WAA accompanies this shortwave into the Midwest late Tuesday Night through Wednesday Night. System takes similar track to the storm system that impacted the area over the past 24 hours. A warm advection rain shield precedes the system on Tuesday Night followed by nice warm sector warming Wednesday and then a pre- frontal convective line pushing through Wednesday afternoon and evening. GEFS forecasted CAPE suggests may be gusty winds and some thunder with this line. Cold advection lags behind allowing the dry slot to bring plenty of sun particularly southeast of the Illinois River. Would not be surprised to see temps around 70 south of I-70 Thursday afternoon. Cold advection finally pours into the region Thursday Night and Friday as highs remain in the 40s and lows Friday Night drop into the 20s despite abundant cloud cover. 850 Temps around -10C by Saturday morning will keeps highs 10-15 degrees below normal Saturday despite clearing behind the retreating trough. && .AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Sunday night) Issued at 1132 PM CST Sat Mar 9 2019 MVFR cigs around 1.5kft will continue overnight and into the morning hours.
