AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION

.SYNOPSIS...
A mid level disturbance will move across the area today bringing
a chance of showers. Multiple rounds of showers with some
embedded thunderstorms will occur ahead of a cold front that
will cross the region Thursday night. After a warm couple of
days, temperatures will fall below normal for the end of the
week into the weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
Scattered showers associated with a midlevel disturbance will
continue to pivot northeast through the ILN FA during the late
morning and early afternoon hours before drier conditions
gradually return past the middle of the afternoon as the best
forcing/ascent pulls north/east of the area. In fact, descent on
the backside of the weakening S/W should allow for at least a
partial clearing of skies late in the day, allowing temperatures
to make a late-day surge into the upper 50s and lower/mid 60s
(particularly across the western/southern/southwestern portions
of the local area). In fact, latest vis satellite shows some
clearing working through south-central Indiana which will arrive
in several hours near the Tri-State area. The only part of the
area which may not see a significant late day bump in
temperatures is in parts of central Ohio where clouds may linger
a bit longer during peak heating hours.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH 6 PM THURSDAY/...
Low level jet will strengthen overnight as it moves from the
mid South into the western part of the forecast area. This will
provide sufficient moisture and lift to result in showers moving
into the area during the latter part of the night. As the low
level jet weakens and heads further northeast Thursday morning,
there is considerable uncertainty how far east showers spread
before diminishing. It seems like there will be some
precipitation across central Ohio, but south central Ohio and
northeast Kentucky could see little or none, especially if low
level flow stays a bit east of south there, which would provide
some downslope.

Expect a lull in precipitation during the early afternoon, but
then a line of convection will form ahead of a cold front and
push into the area in the mid to late afternoon. Guidance has
trended a bit stronger with instability across Indiana. If that
is realized in the strong shear environment, it will pose the
potential for severe storms with damaging winds, either straight
line or brief tornadoes.

Tightening pressure gradient will result in an increase in winds
late tonight and Thursday. It will be gusty, but how gusty is in
question. Guidance suggests that it will be overcast which
should hinder mixing potential. It is not out of the question
that gusts will reach advisory level at some point Thursday,
but the potential seems a little lower based on latest data.

Clouds and increasing winds will result in rather mild readings
tonight with lows near what normal highs are this time of year.
Temperatures rise will be hindered by clouds and precipitation
on Thursday, except for perhaps in the southeast counties where
reaching 70 still seems a possibility. Other parts of the
forecast area may not even get as warm as today.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
A line of storms will be moving across the forecast area at the
start of the long term.  Given strong low level flow damaging winds
will be possible with this line of storms.  Outside of thunderstorm
activity gusty winds will also be present.  There will be a brief
time period after the storms where winds pick up more as drier low
level air works in briefly.

Although precipitation will come to an end overnight Thursday night,
this will be very short lived.  An upper level disturbance will
bring a mix of rain and snow showers Friday into Saturday. With cold
air advection Friday into Friday night expect wind gusts to continue.

Another system will work through the region Sunday into Sunday
night.  Moisture is limited with this feature and therefore have
most locations only having a slight chance of precipitation.  After
this feature expect dry conditions for the remainder of the long
term period.

Went close to the blend for temperatures through the long term with
only minor adjustments to these values.

.AVIATION /18Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
Morning showers and cloud cover have pivoted northeast of the
local terminals, yielding increasingly clear skies for the
afternoon and early evening period. Some BKN cirrus will
continue to stream into the area but otherwise there is not
expected to be much in the way of additional clouds through at
least 06z at which time better cloud cover will begin to work in
again from the west.

The arrival of additional clouds past 06z from the west will be
accompanied by a broken band of showers which will progress
eastward into western parts of the area in the several hour
period around daybreak. However, it is expected to slowly lose
its forward momentum before eventually breaking apart altogether
before getting to eastern sites of KCMH and KLCK. This being
said, KDAY, KCVG, and KLUK will see some -SHRA between about
10z-15z before best shower activity dissipates/lifts north by
the early afternoon. The other item of interest for the morning
timeframe Thursday will be increasing LLWS, with winds of 45kts
possible at times at 2kft.

Showers and storms will redevelop later in the afternoon which
will impact KCVG before 30-hr TAF period ends. Have included
thunder and TEMPO CIG reductions with activity around 21z for
KCVG.

Southerly/southeasterly winds of around 10kts will be
maintained through the early morning hours Thursday before both
the surface pressure gradient and vertical mixing begin to
increase substantially. This will yield an uptick in southerly
winds during the late morning and afternoon hours, with
sustained winds around 20kts and gusts in excess of 30kts
possible by 18z.

OUTLOOK...MVFR ceilings and visibilities possible Thursday
night. MVFR ceilings and visibilities and wind gusts over 25 kt
possible Friday.
