A cold front will move through tonight, allowing cooler high pressure to return over most of the weekend. Another cold front is slated for Sunday, followed by high pressure for early next week. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH FRIDAY/... As of 315 AM Thursday...Entrenchment of FG/DZ this morning, while for pilots ascending above 10,000 feet, sunshine in WSW wind flow aloft. GOES nighttime micro-physics channel shows the extent of upstream clouds that will blot a large percentage of the sky dome. The lazy wind-fields in the low-levels initially will travel a slow road to any cloud-scouring, if at all today. A few breaks in the overcast are possible and favored near the coast, which sets up a potential for the max-t forecast to get clobbered. Placing the bets in the very-little-clearing square for now, which will suppress max-T in the warm air advection regime, 60s most common. Deterioration, low clouds and rain tonight into Friday as a southward sinking cold front helps saturate an already damp low-level, while providing convergence for nice rain chances and ushering falling air temperatures. There is a decrease in absolute humidity behind the front so Tds to lower in wake of the front. Highest 1- meter winds Friday averaging 12 knots in early afternoon in most cramped pressure gradient during this period. QPF overall this period, low-end, yet enough to wet everything very well. && .SHORT TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT/... As of 300 AM Thursday...High pressure wedge remains in place at the surface Friday night but SSW flow and warm advection develops aloft. The resulting isentropic upglide will bring clouds and light rain; the higher rainfall amounts remaining to our north near the 850mb baroclinic zone. The ridge weakens considerably on Saturday; sufficiently so that the isentropic upglide nearly ceases, yet its continued presence means that high temp forecast has to be lowered. A continued weakening of the wedge will finally allow for light southerly winds Saturday night minimizing the overall diurnal range as lows stay elevated into the mid 50s. && .LONG TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/... As of 300 AM Thursday...A thin ribbon of moisture will accompany a cold front on Sunday while weak mid level forcing keeps QPF prospects from being anything other than seemingly meager. Low amplitude aloft while high pressure progresses by to our north Monday and Tuesday. Warm advection clouds and rain chances return on Wednesday. && .AVIATION /12Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/... As of 12Z...Satellite shows widspread IFR/LIFR conditions across the CWA. Visibilities may improve a bit by 14Z, however IFR ceilings are forecast through early afternoon. MVFR is possible by mid afternoon, but we will likely go back into the soup around nightfall. Extended Outlook...Front lingering in the area will lead to more IFR ceilings and/or vsbys Friday into Saturday as another round of overrunning rain develops. As of 315 AM Thursday...SE waves diminishing in amplitude every 8 seconds or so to prevail until, NE wind-seas begin to increase in wake of a cold frontal passage tonight into Friday. As a result, just as soon as we let lower one SCA flag, we will likely need to raise another sometime on Friday. A flat pressure gradient will offer light wind, with sea state mostly in lingering SE swell, should be surfers out. Dense marine fog an issue inshore and marine DFA may be extended later this morning to account for vsby near shore 1nm or less.
