this morning. For the Beach Hazards Statement, from 6 AM EDT
this morning through this evening. For the High Rip Current
Risk, from 6 AM EDT this morning through this evening.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Minor street flooding occurs on the
sound-side of Carolina Beach, along Canal Drive from Starfish
Lane northward. Water gets into yards along the sound, but the
street flooding is mainly the result of salt water backing up
through the storm drains. Heavy rain at the time of high tide
exacerbates this problem.
* SURF ZONE IMPACTS...Very strong rip currents will be dangerous
to anyone who enters the surf. Also, breezy southerly winds will
create a hazardous south to north longshore current at east-facing
beaches.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wilmington NC 703 PM EDT Sat Oct 26 2019 .SYNOPSIS... Rain chances will increase through Sunday ahead of a cold front. Much of next week will remain warm and muggy with unsettled weather as front remains nearby and moves back north through mid week. A cold front will move through Thursday or Friday with cooler and drier high pressure to follow. && .UPDATE... No significant changes were made to the overnight forecast. Small increases to sky cover and timing of highest shower chances based on latest HRRR and RAP models. Breezy onshore winds will keep temps warm, and have raised lows slightly to near 70 even inland. Marine buoys and winds matched previous forecast closely and no significant changes were made there. && .NEAR TERM /THROUGH SUNDAY NIGHT/... Winds continue to shift to the southeast as a warm front pushes across the region tonight. As the warm front approaches, scattered showers and rumbles of thunder will be present this evening. Mostly cloudy skies will likely become overcast as the cold front from the west approaches. The cold front will bring more widespread light precipitation and chances for thunderstorms Sunday. Stronger storms could produce gusty winds Sunday afternoon and evening. && .SHORT TERM /MONDAY THROUGH MONDAY NIGHT/... Cold front will sink slowly to the south Monday into Monday night. Any clearing early Monday should not last. Expect shallow moisture to get locked underneath steep inversion around 4k ft. Therefore expect a fair amount of clouds and can not rule out some light rain or drizzle. Overall, not much cool air behind this front, although dewpoints will drop several degrees relative the warm and moist air late Sunday ahead of the front. Therefore, temperatures will remain elevated above climatology through the period. && .LONG TERM /TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/... Front remains stalled to our south on Tues with light northerly flow at the surface but mid to upper ridge to our east will maintain a deep SW flow aloft. This will produce increasing lift, as winds increase, especially near the frontal boundary which will lift back north through mid week. Also, some shortwave energy may enhance the pcp late Tues into Wed and then as ridge gets suppressed farther south with approach of next front. Overall, expect plenty of clouds around and mild conditions with POPs in the forecast, especially late Tues onwards. The ECMWF continues to have a slower FROPA, but the GFS has slowed as well and looks like Halloween evening will remain in a more warmer and moister southerly flow with greater chc of pcp. This stronger cold front will move through some time on Fri with cooler and drier weather for next weekend. && .AVIATION /00Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/... Warm humid air has pushed into the area this afternoon and dew points have risen into the upper 60s to near 70. This warm humid air advection will continue overnight as we are currently in the warm sector ahead of a cold front trudging eastward through TN/AL. Expect overcast upper and mid-level clouds to descend through the period with sub-VFR conditions developing before sunrise with the best chance of seeing restrictive conditions in SC. Shower chances will increase from south to north across the FA tomorrow morning with a few rumbles of thunder possible embedded in the main line of precip. Expect VFR conditions to return near the end of the period and cooler, drier air funneling in for the start of the week. Extended Outlook...VFR becoming sub-VFR ahead of a cold front Sun into Mon and again on mid-morning Tuesday through Wednesday as a warm front moves northward across the region. && .MARINE... Approaching storm system will kick up significant wind wave heights offshore between 3 and 5 feet from the south/southeast between 5 and 7 seconds for the next 36 hours with light southeast diminishing. Wind from the south over the next 24 hours up to 20 kts with a hard wind shift to the west as the cold front passes Sunday evening. Showers and thunderstorms offshore likely, with locally higher winds and waves in developing storms. Winds shift around to the N-NE on Mon as front sinks south across the waters. The gradient eases slightly leading to a minor decrease in wind and waves. Winds will increase slightly on Tues night into Wed with seas rising slightly. Overall, seas will diminish through Mon running 2 to 4 ft through much of the week until southerly push ahead of cold front late Thurs into Fri. && .TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
