* Impact...At 10.5 feet...There are numerous road closures northwest
of Hutchinson due to high water. Low water crossing on 43rd Street
just east of Pennington floods. Expect road closure on 43rd Street
between Pennington to Hendricks roads. Also 69th Street floods
between Wilson to Pennington roads. Then 50th Street floods between
Wilson and Pennington roads. Flooding occurs along Pennington Road
from Nickerson Blvd to 50th Avenue.

Wilson and Pennington roads. Flooding occurs along Pennington Road

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Wichita KS 701 PM CDT Sun Mar 10 2019 .SHORT TERM...(This evening through Wednesday night) Issued at 319 PM CDT Sun Mar 10 2019 Water vapor imagery shows sharp upper trough digging just off of the southern CA coast with a large fetch of mid/upper moisture extending from west of southern Baja and across the southern Plains. At the surface, high pressure is centered over northeast KS/southeast Nebraska with a stationary front down across southeast TX. Showers affecting southern and central OK will remain south of the area tonight. This area of precip is the result of strong mid level theta-e advection. Not much is expected to change tonight into Mon morning with surface high centered over IA with an upper wave tracking over the southern Great Lakes region. Still looks like light rain chances will gradually increase on Mon, but did slow the eastward progression, holding off on most areas until late afternoon. Still decent model agreement in 850-600mb moisture transport ramping up Mon night which will result in light rain becoming widespread. By 12z Tue, powerful shortwave will be tracking over Baja and approaching Desert Southwest/Sonora. Meanwhile over the southern Plains, a broad area of moisture advection will remain in place with at least scattered showers around most of the day Tue. Confidence is still high that the Tue night into Wed morning time frame is our best chance for heavy rainfall as the shortwave goes negative tilt as it approaches the southern Plains. This will setup a tremendous amount of upper diffluence along with strong mid level moisture transport. PW values still look to be in the 250-275% above normal range. At this point it's tough to pin down which locations will see the most rainfall as there isn't a well defined surface front to focus activity. However, with PW values that high, confidence is high that someone will pick up well over an inch of rain which will likely cause some flooding. We will continue to see some precip and strong winds on the backside of this system as it lifts off to the northeast Wed night. Not out of the question to see some snow showers work in Wed night into Thu morning over central KS. .LONG TERM...(Thursday through Sunday) Issued at 319 PM CDT Sun Mar 10 2019 Confidence is high that below normal temps will overspread the area Thu and Fri, as highs remain generally in the 40s. Normal highs for this time of year are in the mid to upper 50s. Should continue to also see some light precip on the backside of this system as some upper energy continues to dive down the western edge of the trough.
