Overview: SW flow aloft will back to the south tonight into Fri
as a deep/broad upper low invof the Pacific Coast gradually
progresses east across the Intermountain West and into the
Rockies. A lee cyclone attendant the approaching upper low will
deepen into a powerful cyclone over the Northern Plains Fri night
and Sat.

Through Tonight: Despite the deep snowpack in place over most of
the area, relentless warm advection will result in an inevitable
south-north warming trend, with temperatures rising to or
slightly above freezing late this afternoon, and gradually into
the mid-upper 30s by sunrise Fri. With most locations already
at/near 32F at 21Z, the Winter Weather Advisory will most likely
be allowed to expire at 00Z. With southerly flow /warm advection/
atop a moist snowpack, widespread dense fog will be possible late
this evening and overnight. Confidence is insufficient to warrant
a pre-emptive Dense Fog Advisory, at this time. Aside from
fog/drizzle, measurable precipitation is otherwise not
anticipated.

Fri-Fri night: Southerly winds will strengthen over the Tri-State
area as the MSLP gradient tightens on the eastern periphery of the
developing lee cyclone in Colorado. Expect a warming trend and
dry conditions, aside from a small chance for isolated showers
late Friday afternoon and evening. Forecast soundings suggest a
potential for 50-60 mph gusts along/west of Hwy 27 on Fri,
depending on mixing -- which may be negatively impacted by the
residual snowpack.

Sat-Sat night: With the Tri-State area on the southwest periphery
of a deepening mid-latitude cyclone over the Northern Plains --
very strong NW winds are anticipated. Forecast soundings suggest a
mixed layer extending from the SFC-700 mb, with H85-H7 flow on
the order of 60-70 knots. If this should be the case, damaging
winds would be expected over virtually the entire Tri-State area
during the day on Saturday, with peak sustained winds as high as
45-55 mph and peak gusts as high as 75 mph -- particularly from
Goodland north and northeast. A High Wind Watch is in effect for
the entire Tri-State area from 15Z Sat through 06Z Sunday.

.LONG TERM...(Monday through Friday)
Issued at 230 AM MST Fri Nov 29 2019

By Monday, a ridge moves into the central U.S. bringing drier and
slightly warmer conditions. A shortwave trough crosses the Tri-State
area from northwest to southeast Tuesday splitting the ridge into
two ridges over the Midwest and western U.S. The ridge over the
western U.S. moves eastward with the axis crossing the central
Plains Wednesday night. A closed low behind the ridge weakens and
becomes an open wave as it crosses the Rockies Wednesday night. This
weakening low traverses across the Tri-State area Thursday with
another ridge moving over the CWA Thursday night.

Leeside troughing sets up along the Front Range by Monday as a low
makes its way into the central U.S. The leeside trough moves east
with the low over southern Canada with the cold front passing
through the Tri-State area Monday night as it trails to the south of
the low. High pressure moves into the area behind the front until a
surface low moves east just south of the CWA Thursday. Another cold
front trails behind the low and passes through the Tri-State area by
Friday. Behind the front Thursday, winds could be gusty and out of
the north.

Skies will be mostly sunny throughout the extended forecast period.
There will be increased cloud cover in the area associated with the
surface low and cold front Thursday into Friday. Dry conditions are
expected at this time through next Friday. This could change as
there are some signals that there could be a chance for
precipitation with the passage of the cold front late next week.

Temperatures in the mid-40s to upper 50s are expected during the day
before decreasing into the lower 20s to 30s at night through the
extended forecast period.

.AVIATION...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Friday night)

GLD will see LIFR conditions through 15Z with primarily low
ceilings and a possibility of visibilities dropping to around 1/2
mile around sunrise. IFR conditions will between 15-23Z with low
ceilings persisting and visibility improving as south winds become
gusty. After 23Z, conditions will transition to VFR by 04Z and LLWS
is expected as winds above the surface inversion increase to near
50 kts as a strong surface low deepens over northeast Colorado.

MCK will see LIFR conditions persist through 23Z mainly due to
lower ceilings. Southeast winds will become gusty through the
day. After 23Z, LLWS develops with southerly winds approaching 50
kts in advance of the strong surface low deepening over northeast
Colorado. Ceilings will improve by late evening with MVFR
conditions after 04Z.

.DAY ONE...THIS AFTERNOON AND TONIGHT...

A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect for the entire Tri-
State area this afternoon, mainly for patchy freezing drizzle,
freezing fog, and blowing snow. Temperatures will gradually rise
above freezing from south to north late this afternoon and evening.

Areas of dense fog are expected across the entire Tri-State area
this evening through tonight. Overnight temperatures are expected to
remain at or above freezing in most locations, except perhaps in
northeast Colorado, where freezing fog will be possible.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...FRIDAY THROUGH THURSDAY...

Strong southerly winds will develop in eastern Colorado and extreme
western Kansas late Friday afternoon and evening. Southerly wind
gusts as high as 50 to 60 mph will be possible, mainly west of
Highway 25.

A High Wind Watch is in effect for the entire Tri-State area on
Saturday. Wind gusts as high as 65 to 75 mph will be possible.
