.SHORT TERM...(Today through Friday)

This very dry weather pattern will keep temperatures on the upper
side above normal...which in turn will lead to deep mixing and
produce breezy afternoon conditions. Dry...hot and windy means
elevated fire weather concerns and that is more defined below.
This highly mixed atmosphere will be inherently unstable which
means any small amount of forcing could pop some convection.
Unfortunately there is no clear signal of this forcing this
morning. The far northern CWA has been somewhat favored due to
closer proximity to the stronger winds aloft and then there's the
usual San Juan storms. This doesn't change the next few days so
staying with persistence with little expectation of much rainfall
reaching the ground. Instead gusty outflow winds will be the
threat along with lightning...which isn't needed in a hot a breezy
environment. Persistence with the high temperature forecast the
today and tomorrow along with a low temperatures following the
cooler guidance.
.LONG TERM...(Friday night through Wednesday)

A low pressure system spinning north of the CONUS will push the
tail end of an upper level jet north and east of the CWA Friday
night, while a broad high pressure system continues to spin over
northern Mexico. Tightened pressure gradient between the two
systems will continue to produce gusty winds Saturday afternoon,
although winds aloft will be weaker than conditions on Friday in
the wake of the upper level jet. A few storms could develop over
higher terrain, however, the persistent dry air mass covering the
entire CWA will prevent much precipitation from reaching the
ground. Gusty winds and low RH lead to another afternoon with
elevated fire weather concerns for regions with critical fuel
levels.
As the Canadian low tracks north and east, the ridge of high
pressure will build back over southern New Mexico on Sunday.
Winds will shift from the southwest but will continue to usher
dry air into the region. Monsoonal moisture will stay south of our
CWA through the weekend and early next week. Recent models
simulate moisture final wrapping around the high pressure system
and entering our CWA by Tuesday of next week. Models have been
rather inconsistent with the position of the high early next week,
so some uncertainty lies on timing of the return of monsoonal
moisture to our CWA.

No aviation concerns are expected through late morning as mainly
clear skies and light winds will be in place. A warm and highly
mixed atmosphere will lead to gusty afternoon winds picking up
with occasional gusts over 25 mph through sunset. Isolated
thunderstorm development is also possible which could also produce
gusty outflow winds.

Tapping into the stronger winds aloft will lead to breezy
afternoons...which along with the dry air mass over the
region...will contribute to widespread elevated fire weather
conditions in critical fuels on Friday. These gusty winds combined
with low RHs will affect much of Eastern Utah and far Western
Colorado Friday while more localized areas of concern arise
this afternoon. Elevated concerns remain for Saturday, but with
the stronger winds aloft moving slightly further north some of
southern fire zones may not see widespread conditions. Assuming
this forecast holds true, this will be almost as good as it gets
for fire weather potential in August around these parts.
