Issued at 650 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2019 Area of showers moving southeast from Mantioba into far NE ND and NW MN. Expect periodic showers to move southeast from Manitoba thru the day as a couple of weak short waves move southeast. Temps were not changed. && .SHORT TERM...(Today and tonight) Issued at 333 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2019 For today, it will be a breezy/windy day as west-northwest winds pick up into the 20-30 mph range for all but the far eastern fcst area. Gusts 35-40 mph are possible in the DVL basin where full mixing will be realized. Winds though expected to stay just shy of wind adv criteria in DVL basin, but something to watch. NW flow at 500 mb and there are a couple of short waves moving southeast on the southwest side of the 500 mb upper low in NW Ontario/east central Manitoba. These short waves are rather weak but combined with some cool air aloft will generate a few showers today generally along and east of Langdon-Grand Forks-Wadena line with best chances toward Lake of the Woods. SW fcst area should be dry. Highs today will reach the the low-mid 50s as temp advection in the 925-850 mb is pretty neutral today. Clouds expected to clear out of NW MN tonight, and the far eastern fcst area stands the best chc of seeing temps in the 34-35 range and the risk of frost. I used patchy frost attm and no headline due to risk that clouds are slower to clear. For eastern ND skies expected to be clear tonight but southwest wind developing will keep temps a few degrees warmer than farther east. Likely to see a quick fall after sunset then steady temps overnight over eastern ND. .LONG TERM...(Monday through Saturday) Issued at 333 AM CDT Sun Oct 6 2019 Sunshine on Monday and a bit milder with highs upper 50s to lower 60s. A very welcome break from the extremely wet weather of late. 00Z Tue - 12Z Wed Flat upper level ridge over the area 00Z Tue will move to eastern Canada by 12Z Wed. Short wave trough near the Aleutians will amplify into the Intermountain West this period. A cold front will move out of Canada late Tue. Warmer weather will precede front on Tue. Wed - Sat Long wave trough will be across the central North America for most of the period. Long wave trough shifts to the western Great Lakes by the end of the period. Long wave ridge begins to build over western North America at the end of the period as trough deepens in the Gulf of AK. Trough in the Intermountain West is forecast to move into the Northern Plains by Fri.
