. Snowmelt has continued in the southern Red River Valley leading
to multiple locations rising into or expected to soon rise into
flood stage. Forecast temperatures will continue to produce a slow
snow melt and as melt water enters the river system more spring
flooding will begin. Future snowmelt remains dependent on
temperatures and precipitation as most of the Red River Valley still
has snowpack in place. Due to this some locations in this statement
could have a second crest after the current flooding subsides, such
as in Wahpeton.
This forecast is for a 7-day period...the highest stage
indicated may not reflect the crest for this event.
Forecasts are updated daily and stage values will change
as new weather and river information is used.

Twin Valley continues to rise and will enter flood stage Sunday
night or Monday morning. Meanwhile, at Hendrum, the Wild Rice is
rising slightly faster than anticipated and will likely enter
moderate flood stage Saturday morning. The Sand Hill River in
Climax is currently being affected by backwater from the Red
River. Snowmelt will increase this weekend with higher
temperatures and rainfall. The Red Lake River in Crookston will
see significant rises as we head into Sunday and Monday.

A cold front will bring a band of rain and or snow showers to the area this afternoon into the evening with accumulations minimal. In its wake a 2 to 3 hour period of gusty north winds are expected with efficient mixing and momentum transfer from around 900mb with 30kts. Cold advection will help skies clear as 925mb temps fall to around -10C on the NW quadrant on sfc high pressure sliding to the SW of the FA. As a result morning temps will be in the teens to low 20s. Will keep a cold blyr tomorrow with highs struggling into the low 30s slowing any progress on the snowmelt front for a day. Temps Saturday night will again be in the teens and 20s with a low chance of light snow towards Sunday morning in NW MN. .LONG TERM...(Sunday through Friday) Issued at 242 PM CDT Fri Mar 29 2019 Models still diverging as to placement of surface features in the latter part of the extended period.
