PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
All persons with interests along the river should monitor the latest
forecasts...and be prepared to take necessary precautions to protect
life and property.

tomorrow. The river will fall below flood stage late Thursday
morning.
* At 28 feet...Minor flooding continues along the river upstream
and downstream from the gage on the 14th Street bridge. Portions of
the River Walk in Columbus will be flooded around one foot deep and
closed to the public. The Phenix City Amphitheater on the Alabama

* From early Saturday until further notice.
* At 2 AM Friday the stage was 16.9 feet...and falling.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 17.0 feet.
* The Oconee River has fallen below flood stage and will continue to fall
this morning. However with additional rainfall expected, the river will
begin rising this afternoon and evening and rise above flood stage by early Saturday. It will continue to rise to near 19.9 feet by Tuesday morning.
* At 19.0 feet...The water level begins to flood the dirt parking lot
area near the Old Balls Ferry Road boat ramp...just upstream and
rightbank from the Georgia Highway 57 bridge. Minor flooding
continues and spreads further into the woodlands near the river.
* This crest compares to a previous crest of 20.0 feet on Nov 18 2018.

* At 11 AM Friday the stage was 14.8 feet...and rising.
* Minor flooding is forecast.
* Flood stage is 22 feet.
* Forecast to rise above flood stage by after midnight and
continue to rise to near 26.5 feet by Sunday evening.The river will
fall below flood stage by late Tuesday morning.
* At 22 feet...Flood stage is reached. Minor flooding occurs
upstream and downstream from the gage located around one half mile
upstream from the Georgia Highway 22 and 24 bridge. Low lying
portions of woodlands and pasture in the natural flood plain will
begin to flood. This will include portions of the sidewalks in the
Oconee River Greenway Park just downstream from the bridge.
Sinclair Dam will have one to two gates open to reach this height.

Gooseneck Lane...residents are cutoff from reaching their homes.
The water will be from 1 to 3 feet deep over the road.

* The river will continue rising to near 18.4 feet by Friday morning.
The river will fall below flood stage Monday afternoon.
* At 18 feet...Minor flooding expands in the woodlands and pastures
upstream and downstream from the gage on U.S. Highway 280. A
campground and a few out buildings begin to flood several miles
south of Mount Vernon. Eleven homes in the Cherokee Sand Ridge
subdivision are surrounded by water. Dead River Road becomes
flooded and is closed.

Area Forecast Discussion National Weather Service Peachtree City GA 648 AM EST Tue Jan 1 2019 .PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 422 AM EST Tue Jan 1 2019/ SHORT TERM /Today through Wednesday/... Surface front currently entering forecast area early this morning and will slowly sag south and east across the forecast area. The front will stall as a stationary surface front across central Georgia by this evening. This will bring scattered showers across the area today with just chance pops expected today and pops diminishing to slight chance overnight. Only limited instability noted across the area and have left thunder out of the area today. The next upper level low will dig into the desert southwest by the end of the period with several impulses lifting across the gulf coast states tomorrow. The stalled front will lift northward as a warm front tomorrow and will again spread showers across the area with good chance pops once again expected. With limited instability once again, have again left thunder out of the forecast area. Temperatures will continue above normal and have stayed close to guidance temperatures. Atwell LONG TERM /Wednesday Night through Monday/... Extended forecast starts off active with aforementioned stalled cold front over central Georgia lifting northward Thursday as deepening upper low approaches the region. Long-term solutions continue to be in better agreement with the timing and placement of the low as it tracks over the Carolinas by early Saturday. At this time, models continue show warmer trend for overnight lows Friday and Saturday mornings, and have removed all mention of wintry precip in the forecast. Behind the low, dry and warmer than normal temperatures are expected as ridge of high pressure moves in over the area through the weekend. Extended models differ for Day 7 and beyond, with both the GFS and Euro showing a cold front approaching the area, but the Euro washes it out with minimal impact to the area, while the GFS shows a decent rainfall event. For now, have gone with a middle of the road approach, showing slight chance to chance pops beginning Tuesday morning and lasting into early Wednesday. Rainfall amounts through Friday are 1 to 2.5 inches, with the highest amounts expected over the northern Atlanta metro area and northward towards the GA/TN line.
