The Flash Flood Watch for much of north and central Georgia has been cancelled. Overnight rainfall of 0.5 to 1.5 inches was observed with higher amounts around 2 inches over the Columbus area. However, with the rain quickly ending this morning and early afternoon over north and west Georgia and moving into areas that saw relatively little rain, flash flooding is not anticipated at this time. Many creeks and rivers will see rises this morning and one or two points may go above flood stage, but widespread river flooding is not expected. $$

Scattered showers have developed across north GA as well as central and east central AL with general movement northeast. Majority of the hi-res models show scattered showers will increase through the day across north and parts of central GA and will therefore increase pops across much of the CWA for the rest of this morning and afternoon. No other changes planned. PREV DISCUSSION... /Issued 401 AM EST Wed Jan 2 2019/ SHORT TERM /Today through Thursday/... The upper low will track into Texas through the short term period, keeping the forecast area under moist southwest flow. A surface low will develop off the east coast of Texas this afternoon and as it lifts into the Mississippi Valley the surface boundary over south Georgia will lift northward this evening as the surface low rides along the front. High clouds will remain across the area. POPs will increase across the area with periods of showers across much of the area expect overnight into tomorrow. The showers will taper off in the afternoon, and with limited instability do not expect thunderstorms at this time. Guidance temperatures are progged to remain above normal through the short term period and have performed well over the past several days, so will stay close. Atwell LONG TERM /Thursday Night through Tuesday/... Wet conditions expected through Friday night as low pressure traverses the area, dragging another cold front through the state Friday into Friday night. Expect rainfall amounts of 1 to 2.5 inches through Friday. Recent rainfall guidance has flip-flopped on amounts, and it's possible that these amounts are a touch low. Given soils remain saturated, quickly accumulating rainfall will exacerbate ongoing flooding concerns. High pressure will build into the region for the weekend, with dry and warm conditions expected. Another system is expected to impact the area Tuesday, with extended solutions still differing somewhat on timing/intensity/moisture content of the system.
