* Forecast...Rise above flood stage by Friday early afternoon and continue to
rise to near 26.5 feet by Saturday early afternoon. The river will fall below
flood stage by Sunday afternoon.
* Impact...At 27.0 feet...Major widespread lowland flooding cuts off and
potentially drowns livestock above Uvalde to below Tilden. Most secondary
roads and low bridges near the river flood. Flow is within a foot of the
bottom of the Farm to Market 190 bridge and the approaches are flooded.

High-res models show a decent break in activity before the next round moves into the DRT area late this afternoon and some possible scattered storms around San Antonio around 20z. Will handle both of these scenarios with a VCTS group. LIFR/IFR ceilings are in place and should slowly improve throughout the day. Will have to watch convection well west of DRT at this present time as it nears the Rio Grande. If it holds together, will need an amendment to TAFDRT. && .PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 605 AM CDT Wed Jun 5 2019/ UPDATE... /CANCELLING FFA FOR WESTERN COUNTIES/ The next round of convection to approach the Rio Grande looks on track to miss most of the Flash Flood Watch area to the south with only some weak lift noted by radar just east of Big Bend. On the heels of this cluster, models show a progressive lowering of Pwat values, which should significantly reduce the potential for training cells. Will keep the remaining forecast as is. PREV DISCUSSION... /ISSUED 424 AM CDT Wed Jun 5 2019/ SHORT TERM (Today through Thursday)... High precipitable water values over South Central TX are expected to shift east this morning with lowering values expected at DRT after daybreak. Convection continues to extend west to near Big Bend, to the Flash Flood Watch will need to be kept in effect through 7 am, although convective activity still moving through the watch area is on the decline. Along and east of I-35 precipitable water values will remain between 2 and 2.3 inches. While a weak training pattern is occurring along I-35, convection to the southeast over the Victoria Crossroads region is where there is potential for excessive rainfall. Most of the CAMs models keep the heavier activity east of I-35, but the TX Tech WRF and NAM runs do indicate a brief period of heavy rain extending as far west as between Austin and Bastrop at daybreak. Will keep locally heavy rainfall in the forecast for the eastern periphery of the forecast area with expected amounts of 1 to 3 inches. The remainder of South Central TX should only see 0.25 to 1.5 inch amounts going forward, with lightest amounts expected along and just west of Hwy 281. Minimal activity is expected tonight into Thursday morning, but the consensus is trending toward a round of diurnally driven convection that forms as the upper low crosses North TX Thursday afternoon. Cold air advection aloft will lead to CAPE values in excess of 4000 J/KG, so the potential will exist for some large hail and damaging winds. The rain and storm chances should lower by 03Z Friday. LONG TERM (Thursday Night through Tuesday)... The last of period of near normal temps is Thursday night before a significant heat wave hits the area beginning Friday. A sharp mid level ridge builds over western and central parts of TX Friday and amplifies over the area through Sunday. The area will likely need a Heat Advisory as we should experience heat index values up to around 110 each day. Late Sunday, an unusual June front is expected to slip beneath the upper ridging and possibly generate an inverted-V sounding day, leading to some isolated storms with damaging winds. The push of the front is difficult to accept considering the strength of the H5 ridge at 595 decameters. The consensus of medium range are all signaling that the front will be capable, so we'll see. Before the front arrives, there is a reasonable chance that the metro cities could experience the first triple digit temperature of the warm season. A mid level trough deepens over the SErn US to coincide with the front and thus forces the ridge axis to retreat west. Thus we should see a much more tolerable high temp in the low to mid 90s by Monday. This pattern holds in place through next Wednesday with a slightly unstable NW flow pattern aloft over Central TX to lead to daily slight chances for thunderstorms. && .PRELIMINARY POINT TEMPS/POPS...
