AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 243 PM PDT Mon Aug 12 2019 .SYNOPSIS...Warm interior temperatures will continue through Friday, followed by a return to near normal temperatures by the weekend. Nighttime and morning coastal cloudiness will continue through most of the week, with clearing by late morning each day. Mostly dry conditions are expected to continue. && .DISCUSSION...All that remains of this morning's low cloudiness is s small patch of clouds just offshore from S of KCEC to N of Patrick's Point. The marine layer is presently around 1000 feet deep, and this is generally expected to continue for the next few days. With a weak low-level inversion, this should allow coastal stratus to dissipate by mid to late morning for the next few days. Indications are that the marine layer may deepen a bit and the low-level inversion strengthen later in the week. Nearly zonal flow will persist through most of the week. This will keep seasonal to slightly above normal temperatures and mostly dry conditions. Late in the week, an upper level trough will S move over the region. At this time, the most likely impact will only be slight cooling across the interior on the weekend. There will be some dynamic forcing associated with the trough maxing out Friday night. Will have to keep an eye on this time period for inclusion of isolated showers and thunderstorms, but, at this time, uncertainty remains high enough to keep out of the forecast. /SEC && .AVIATION...Weather conditions today started off with a narrow band of marine stratus that impacted the coast north of Cape Mendocino, and deep into the Eel River Valley. The marine layer appeared around 1000 to 1500 feet today. CEC drop below airport minimals, while ACV hovered around 800-1300 feet. Stratus mostly retreated from the coastal airports by mid to late morning. However, WSW wind pushed LIFR/IFR Cigs back into CEC airport around 1 PM. Areas of stratus persisted along a few coastal spots north of Orick and around South Humboldt Bay. IFR conditions will fully redevelop and blanket coastal terminals by late afternoon, but mainly in the evening. Interior terminals including UKI will remain predominantly VFR through the TAF period. /TAA && .MARINE...Winds and seas will continue to build across the coastal waters through the middle part of the week and remain elevated through Friday. Conditions are expected to remain below advisory criteria through late Tuesday, though localized gusts up to 30 knots will be possible near and downwind of Cape Mendocino. Steep, short-period seas will develop this week as a result of the increasing winds. Small Craft Advisories will be needed, at least over the outer waters, starting early Wednesday morning and persisting through early this weekend.
