AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION National Weather Service Eureka CA 321 PM PDT Fri Jun 28 2019 .SYNOPSIS...Mild and mostly dry conditions are expected to continue while a gradual warming trend begins across interior areas through the next week. A weak shower with an isolated lightning strike or two will be possible near northeastern Trinity county and the Yolla Bolly mountains each afternoon. && .DISCUSSION...Main issues to contend with continue to be a pesky layer of stratus along the north coast...and weak instability over the eastern mountains. Stratus and fog has plagued to north coast today and into this afternoon with some areas seeing brief sunshine. This pattern is likely to continue tomorrow as well while the Mendo coast basks in abundant sunshine. In addition, some lingering instability yet again leaves open the possibility of a weak shower or two across a few localized areas of the Klamath mountain range, including near the Trinity Horn and Yolla Bolly mountains this evening and tomorrow. GFS showing a slightly higher ridge of instability poking into the alps on Saturday afternoon thus bumped slight chance pops up a bit there. Meanwhile along the coast, a shallow layer of marine stratus and fog has developed in places early this morning. This layer is likely to dissipate in land areas relatively quickly during the morning hours, but may linger across the waters just offshore much of the day. This stratus will likely return quickly during the evening. In the long term, the gradual replacement of the offshore upper level trough with higher pressure and warmer temperatures aloft will result in a very gradual interior warming trend over the next several days. Afternoon highs will likely climb back into the upper 80s to low 90s by Sunday, and will likely rise slightly higher still by mid week. Along the coast, the marine layer will is expected to strengthen, and coastal stratus will likely become more prevalent. Precipitation chances will be minimal aside from perhaps a few bouts of nocturnal coastal drizzle and conditional, low probability opportunities for weak mountain showers. BRC/JT && .AVIATION...As stratus has enveloped the NorthCoast during much of the day, Flight conditions have varied most of the day between LIFR and IFR. Broken and Overcast cloud conditions prevail as visibility also flucutates with Fog and Mist obscurations persisting. Cool temperatures and aforementioned coastal stratus will bring the stratus layer back into the evening and much of the weekend. VFR conditions should prevail elsewhere.
