.SYNOPSIS...Scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms over the
interior mountains late this afternoon will end during the evening
hours. For Memorial Day, most areas will be warm and dry, but,
once again, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will be
possible across Trinity and Mendocino counties during the
afternoon and evening hours.

.DISCUSSION...Some weak instability and a passing upper level
impulse may result in the regeneration of showers across
mountainous areas, particularly in northern Trinity, eastern Del
Norte, and perhaps eastern Mendocino counties. Instability will
be greatest across the Trinity Horn and extreme E Del Norte
county, and a few weak thunderstorms will be possible in these
areas. SW storm motion is expected to slow, but some of this
activity may make it a bit closer to the coastal zones before
weakening early this evening.
On Memorial day, weak northerly flow will remain across the
region, along with lingering low-level moisture. While most areas
will remain dry aside from some coastal drizzle in the morning,
another subtle upper level impulse embedded within the northerly
flow will likely pass through the region, which may assist in the
generation of additional showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms
across Trinity and NE Mendocino counties. Instability will be
weak due to the presence of poor mid-level lapse rates, and thus
any storms that develop will likely not be particularly strong.
Otherwise, expect generally dry conditions with pleasantly mild
afternoon high temperatures.
For the remainder of the week, CA will remain within a regime of
weak northerly flow as a broad upper level trough remains largely
parked across the great basin. While most of the region will
remain dry as a result, lingering high moisture content and the
passage of additional upper level impulses will continue to result
in periodic chances for isolated showers and thunderstorms across
the eastern mountains through the end of the week. While there
are some uncertainties regarding which days present the best
opportunities for these showers, at the present time the next best
opportunity appears to be Wednesday afternoon. The remainder of
the region will generally see dry and warmer conditions through

.AVIATION...An upper-level low pressure system continues to meander
move south today with virtually no rain left across the County
Warning Area. Some very light showers may be observed over the
interior mountains but that would be the extent of any
precipitation. Otherwise, VFR conditions are expected to continue
across the interior zones with the exception of some very brief
morning ground fog along the interior valleys during the early
morning hours. Both statistical and model guidance suggests IFR to
LIFR ceilings will be possible tonight at both primary coastal
terminals with both indicating the development of marine stratus
but this will likely occur late in the evening at earliest and
then sustain itself through the morning hours. The gusty
northerlies will continue through the evening along the coast but
the latter half of the TAF period should see much lighter winds,
including the next few days as the northerly gradient diminishes.

.MARINE...The gusty northerlies that have plagued the marine
waters the last 48 hours are gradually diminishing, ending the
the need for a Small Craft Advisory for wind. However, the
residual short period waves will continue for at least another 12
hours before finally subsiding. Monday should see much better
conditions before northerlies being to blow again on Tuesday as
high pressure begins to build across the region. The need for
another advisory for N winds and resulting seas may be possible
by Wednesday for the outer waters. The northerly winds are
expected to persist through the remainder of next week, promoting
the growth of a fresh short period NW swell while the current mid-
period W swell subsides.
