.SYNOPSIS...Slightly cooler temperatures are in store for Tuesday
and Wednesday before rebounding late in the week. The area will
remain dry for the remainder of the work week, with a slight
chance of rain this weekend.

.DISCUSSION...High pressure remains off the west coast this
afternoon. Several shortwaves are moving down the east side of
this ridge. One is currently over eastern Oregon/Idaho and the
second is on the coast of British Columbia. The one over British
Columbia will swing down across the area late tonight into
Tuesday. No precipitation is expected with these systems.
Stratus is lingering on the Mendocino coast this afternoon and is
expected to expand inland again this evening. It looks like it
will spread north into Ukiah again tonight as well. Some stratus
is expected again tonight in the Eel River valley. A dry
shortwave moving south over the area late tonight into Tuesday is
expected to increase offshore flow clear any lingering stratus out
by mid morning. This will increase offshore flow and help to
clear out any stratus that does form tonight. These will bring a
cooler airmass to the area. This will lead to the potential for
frost tonight and cooler temperatures in the inland areas on
Tuesday and Wednesday. The best chance for frost is expected to be
in the Trinity county valleys near Hayfork and Ruth, as well as
eastern Humboldt county along the Van Duzen River. Additional high
elevation valleys may see some frost as well. So have issued a
frost advisory for southern Trinity county and southeastern
Humboldt county, although confidence is low on this.
Tuesday night into Wednesday the offshore flow weakens and stratus
is expected to spread across the area. The NAM is capturing this
fairly well. Farther inland the chilly overnight temperatures are
expected. Frost is expected to be more widespread in Trinity, but
Humboldt county may see more valley clouds which would limit the
coverage. Thursday and Friday the inland areas are expected to see
a gradual warming trend while the coasts see a return of more
widespread stratus and lighter winds.
The next slight chance for rain still looks to be during the
weekend as a closed upper low moves inland over the central
California coast, however significant uncertainty regarding the
evolution of this system lends pretty low confidence for
precipitation potential this weekend. MKK/CB

.MARINE...Gale force gusts will likely continue through this
evening across the northern outer waters and into northwest
portions of the southern outer waters. Hazardous seas of 12 to 16
feet at around 11 seconds continue to weaken in the outer waters
this evening through tonight. Northerly winds will pulse this
afternoon before trending down overall across the waters later
tonight, with lighter southerly winds over the southern inner
waters near and south of Shelter Cove. These northerly winds will
slowly ease through Wednesday with seas lagging but slowly
weakening as well. The exact timing of gradually lowering seas
below hazardous seas criteria is uncertain for the zones, and it
is possible that conditions will remain hazardous near Cape
Mendocino and across the southern outer waters through tonight,
with only some slight improvement on Tuesday. Northerly winds will
drop back into the 10 to 20 kt range late Tuesday night and
remain there through the end of this week. This will allow seas to
lower below 6 ft for the bulk of the coastal waters Wednesday
