.SYNOPSIS...Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible
across portions of Trinity and Mendocino counties each afternoon
and evening through Saturday, with the best chances today.
Otherwise, high temperatures will continue to gradually warm
through early next week.

.DISCUSSION...A closed low will slowly continue to move southward
across Southern Oregon and into Northern California today. This
disturbance will lead to chances of afternoon and evening showers
and thunderstorms over portions of Trinity and Mendocino counties
over the next several days, with today being the greatest threat.
PWATs are forecast be a little better today than previous days,
which may lead to heavy rain chances with stronger thunderstorms.
In addition, storm motion is expected to be relatively slow, so
localized ponding of water and small stream flooding will be
possible with the strongest storms today. The closed low will
slowly continue to move south and away from the area through
Friday. Additional shower and thunderstorm chances will be
possible every afternoon and evening through Saturday as the low
exits the region.
Cloud cover at the coast is expected to persist through most of
the day along the northern Humboldt and Mendocino coasts, but a
few breaks will be possible late this afternoon. Most of the Del
Norte coast should see some clearing this afternoon and evening,
before the eventual return of marine stratus tonight. The marine
layer is expected to continue to gradually become more shallow,
which will allow periods of more widespread afternoon and evening
sunshine at the coast over the next few days. Patchy fog and
drizzle will once again be possible tonight at the coast.
Otherwise, high temperatures are forecast to increase into the
lower 90s across portions of the interior this weekend and into
early next week.

.AVIATION...A deep and persistent marine layer will keep stratus
lingering around the coastal terminals for much of the day today,
with only minor improvements likely. Expect visibilities to
increase and ceilings to lift from IFR/LIFR to MVFR near or after
daybreak, however MVFR cigs are expected to prevail into the
evening, perhaps with some intermittent periods of VFR during the
afternoon. Conditions will then once again deteriorate to IFR/LIFR
after sunset as stratus thickens and patchy fog redevelops.
Expecting UKI to remain VFR for the duration of the TAF period
based on recent trends, however a short window of MVFR ceilings
cannot be ruled out later this morning if stratus over parts of
Sonoma County can creep a little farther up the Russian River
Valley. Meanwhile, other interior airfields will see the potential
for scattered showers and a few thunderstorms through this

.MARINE...Northerly winds will continue to gradually trend upward
today as the coastal pressure gradient tightens in response to
high pressure building over the eastern Pacific. This will
maintain a lengthy period of Small Craft Advisory conditions over
the coastal waters lasting into at least early next week.
Localized gale force gusts will remain possible into Friday
downwind of Cape Mendocino and over the outer waters, however the
rather sparse coverage precludes any immediate Gale headlines at
this time. Did opt to hoist a Gale Watch later in the period for
the outer waters beginning Friday night and lasting through much
of the weekend as winds continue to increase, owing to a
strengthening thermal trough over the interior. The persistent
northerlies will also produce increasingly steep short period seas
over the course of the weekend, such that even if gale criteria
are not realized a Hazardous Seas headline will likely be required
by the weekend. Wind driven short period seas will remain the
dominant wave group for the foreseeable future, although a modest
mid period southwest swell of 2-3 feet will also be present for
