.SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions will persist through this afternoon,
followed by showery weather spreading across the North Coast
tonight into Saturday. Moderate to locally heavy rain will be
possible across northwest California Sunday and Monday. Wet and
unsettled weather will continue next week.

.DISCUSSION...Water vapor imagery showed an upper trough moving
east across the Great Basin early Friday morning, with a second
wave progressing southward across coastal BC. The northern wave
is forecast to shear southeastward across the PAC NW this
afternoon and night, which will drive a weak surface frontal
feature southward toward SWRN OR. Light showers are expected to
develop ahead of the front and impact mainly Del Norte and
northern Humboldt Counties through Saturday afternoon.
Meanwhile, the previously mentioned northern trough is forecast to
amplify westward across the NERN PAC Saturday into Sunday. This
will aid in midlevel flow becoming zonal across the region, while
in the low-levels, a frontal boundary is forecast to become
oriented west to east from coastal OR westward across the Pacific.
Model guidance shows a midlevel disturbance moving east over the
front during Sunday, which will favor low-level cyclogenesis and
intensifying warm air advection downstream in the vicinity of NRN
CA/SWRN OR. This regime will support intensifying rainfall rates
during Sunday...eventually peaking Sunday night as the low moves
onshore across OR. Heavy rain Sunday night could yield urban and
small stream flooding, as well as rising main stem river levels.
In addition, south winds will potentially gust from 40 to 60 mph
across exposed ridges and coastal areas Sunday night into Monday.
Freezing levels on Saturday will initially start out around
1500-2500 feet, but are forecast to quickly rise to 3000-4000 feet
by Saturday afternoon, and then rise further to 3500-4500 feet
during Sunday. Freezing levels will be lowest over the Trinity
Horn throughout the weekend, and it is there that heavy high
elevation snow will be most probable, with some impact to travel
possible at Scott Mountain Summit.
Otherwise, a wet and active pattern will continue through most of
next week. Another round of moderate to heavy rain will be
possible Monday night into Tuesday, followed by lighter rains
during midweek, and then perhaps additional moderate to heavy rain
during late week.

.AVIATION...VFR conditions will prevail this morning and
afternoon. Midlevel clouds will spread across the region this
evening, with ceilings falling to around 3000 feet along the
Humboldt/Del Norte coast late tonight as a weak front approaches
the region from the north.

.MARINE...Winds have decoupled right at the coast but near shore
buoys still showing some gusty northerlies this morning. Winds
should not be as strong today as the gradient very gradually
weakens due to an approaching system. Main issue will be the
residual swell that will likely remain a little elevated through
the afternoon so have extended the sca's a little. Wind field will
lighten significantly by late tonight while backing toward the
south as the next system approaches. Southerly gales are likely by
Sunday.

.HYDROLOGY...Widespread 2 to 4 inches of rain is expected from
Saturday evening through Monday evening, with localized rainfall
totals up to 6 inches possible over west facing ridge and mountain
slopes. The heaviest rainfall rates will likely occur Sunday
night. This rain event will cause mainstem rivers to rise,
including the Eel River at Fernbridge, which is forecast to reach
action stage Monday night.
