What forecasters said that day

The local office's own words before this wind advisory went out, as it sent them, from the Iowa Environmental Mesonet's archive of National Weather Service text.

NWS Kansas City, MO wrote its last area forecast discussion before this wind advisory went out at Nov 26, 12:11 AM CST, 3 hours 28 minutes earlier.

Area forecast discussion, Nov 26, 12:11 AM CST, 3 hours 28 minutes before
AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION
National Weather Service Kansas City/Pleasant Hill MO
1211 AM CST Tue Nov 26 2019

.Short Term...(This Evening through Wednesday Night)
Issued at 330 PM CST MON NOV 25 2019

Key message: An active weather pattern will bring two prominent
bouts of precipitation and windy conditions this week - overall
impacts should be low in our forecast area.

A spectacular fall day is ongoing with mostly sunny skies and
afternoon temperatures in the upper 50s to lower 60s. Attention
turns to a developing storm system currently over Utah that will
steadily march into the Central Plains on Tuesday. Low clouds will
develop and move into the area late tonight into Tuesday morning,
with increasing chances for scattered showers during the day on
Tuesday. A surface warm front will slowly lift ahead of the
approaching system, residing near or just north of the Interstate 70
corridor by late afternoon. Highs south of the front will be in the
lower to middle 60s, with much cooler readings in the 40s in far
northern Missouri. Surface low pressure will ride along this
boundary to near KC around sunset, with an accompanying cold
front sweeping through. Modified gulf moisture will stream
northward with dewpoints in the 50s in the warm sector. Sufficient
moisture, instability, and lift will generate convection along
and ahead of the cold front during the late afternoon and evening
hours. Strong wind shear will promote the potential for organized
rotating storms and a subsequent severe weather threat, including
the potential for large hail, gusty winds, and perhaps a brief
tornado. On the cold side of the system, wrap-around precipitation
will largely stay northwest of the forecast area, and only low
chances for light snow will be possible Tuesday night in far
northwest Missouri. Little to no accumulation is anticipated and
likewise no impacts.

The upper system will depart Wednesday morning, and a
strengthening pressure gradient will result in windy westerly
winds beginning late Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
Sustained winds will flirt with wind advisory criteria with gusts
up to 45 mph.

.Long Term...(Thursday through Monday)
Issued at 330 PM CST MON NOV 25 2019

After a lull in the weather, attention turns to Thursday with the
approach of the next upper system. Precipitation will overspread on
Thursday morning while low level environment will still be
favorable for frozen precipitation. Surface winds will be out of
the southeast, which will prevent wholesale warming through the
day, but more southerly winds at H85 should get warmer low level
temperatures just off the surface into the area. By mid day on
Thursday temperatures should increase beyond the middle 30s, so a
switch over from light snow to rain is expected. Minimal snow
accumulation and minor impacts to area roads are expected with
this Thursday morning activity. Early morning roads may be tougher
to travel than later in the morning and afternoon, so early
morning Thanksgiving travelers will need to proceed with caution.

Friday will bring another chance for some widespread rain, with
perhaps another chance at some thunder. Another large trough will
approach from the west, and warm/moist air ahead of this trough
will kick off scattered showers as early as 6 am Friday, and
become more numerous through the day. Strong southwest winds will
be present at H85 by mid day, which should help yield some very
strong wind gusts at the surface, perhaps in the 40 to 50 mph
range. While widespread severe weather is not expected at this
time, it will be possible given the dynamics of this Friday system
to produce some isolated strong to severe storms.

The rain moves out by Saturday morning, as a cooler and drier air
mass moves in for next weekend. While the pattern does appear to
remain somewhat active with upstream troughing next week, there
does not appear to be any imminent moderate or high impact weather
maker on the horizon.

&&

.Aviation...(For the 06Z TAFS through 06Z Tuesday Night)
Issued at 1204 AM CST TUE NOV 26 2019

A significant storm system will track across the plains Tuesday.
VFR ceilings will lower to MVFR by 15Z with scattered showers
moving in from the south. A line of thunderstorms will also be
possible around 00Z near the terminals and quickly move off to the
east. Winds will gradually veer from northeasterly to
southeasterly to southwesterly through the period. Sustained winds
of 12 to 15 kts...gusting 20 to 25 kts...will be possible after
15Z but will increase after 03Z behind a cold front. Southwesterly
to westerly sustained winds behind the front could reach 25 kts or
greater with gusts over 35 kts likely.
