.SHORT TERM...(Today through Tuesday night)

KCYS radar loop early this morning shows bands of moderate to
locally heavy snowfall, associated with an arctic frontal passage,
drifting southward into Colorado at this hour with light snow
becoming more prevalent. Cancelled the Winter Weather Adv. up
north a few hours early since snow came to an end up near Douglas
pretty early last night. Will think about cancelling the rest of
the Adv. but most locations still showing visibilities between 1
to 3 miles and light snow, so may just allow it to expire in a few
hours. Otherwise, a few snow flurries are expected after sunrise
this morning with a cold day ahead with high temperatures in the
20s for most areas, with maybe low to mid 30s for western Carbon
county.
For tonight, expect overnight lows to occur relatively early as
the arctic airmass gradually shifts south and east of the region,
and gusty west to northwest winds develop across southeast
Wyoming. Alliance, Chadron, and Sidney areas have the best chance
of seeing lows around zero or a few degrees below zero, but kept
them around 5 degrees for now since the snow pack isn't expected
to be too significant. Further west, temperatures will gradually
increase after midnight with some areas warming to near freezing
by sunrise along and just east of the Laramie Range. Will have to
watch winds, especially in the wind prone areas late tonight and
through Tuesday night. After analyzing pressure gradients just
off the surface in addition to in-house models, decided to go
with a High Wind Watch for the wind prone areas of southeast
Wyoming, including the I-80 Summit and foothills, starting early
Tuesday morning and continuing through early Wednesday morning.
There is low confidence on when these winds will begin, with some
models showing strong winds developing as early as late tonight,
but Tuesday afternoon and night seem to have the most favorable
conditions at this moment. Warmer temperatures expected for
Tuesday, mainly due to winds aloft mixing down to the surface as
700mb temperatures increase between 0c to 5c.
.LONG TERM...(Wednesday through Sunday)

Wednesday...A fast moving and low amplitude shortwave trough aloft
moves from northern Wyoming in the morning, to eastern Nebraska by
evening. Aside from a few morning snow showers across our
northeastern counties, it will be dry. Somewhat cooler for most
locations in the wake of the associated cold front.
Thursday...Dry and a bit warmer as a ridge aloft moves into western
Wyoming with rising heights and thicknesses for our forecast area.
Friday...Decent warming trend continues as the flow aloft turns
westerly and surface lee troughing develops.
Saturday...Cooler again with scattered showers of rain and snow as
the next fast moving shortwave trough aloft and cold front pass our
counties.
Sunday...Dry and breezy with seasonable temperatures as fast
northwest flow aloft develops.
