...06z Aviation Forecast Update...

.SYNOPSIS...
A stationary front continues to persist across the local area. A
low pressure system is expected to move northeast along the
front to northern Ohio by Thursday morning. The low will move
off to the east Thursday night allowing high pressure to build
east over the region Friday. A strong warm front will lift north
across the area Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TODAY/...
Made more minor adjustments to the forecast over the next few
hours. Precip activity is quickly diminishing across the
southern part of the area, with a few slow moving showers in
Knox and Holmes counties, although rainfall rates are modest at
best. Have let the flash flood watch expire this evening with
activity expected to keep diminishing through the rest of the
night. Some patchy dense fog still anticipated across the
southeast part of the area, especially where the heaviest rain
fell over the last few nights.

Original discussion...
A stagnant weather pattern continues this afternoon as a stationary
front remains across the southern portions of the forecast area. As
expected, more convection developed this afternoon along the
front. This activity is expected to continue through the early
evening and then dissipate. Due to the threat for more rain and
potential runoff, will extend the flash flood watch for this
event out until 9 PM this evening. This should hopefully be it
and the forecast area can expect a brief period of calm
overnight into tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, another trough
of low pressure in the upper levels will begin to move east
toward the area. This feature will deepen enough for an upper
level low pressure to develop over the forecast area by
Thursday. Low pressure associated with the upper level trough
and low will move northeast toward the area and be centered over
northern Ohio by Thursday morning. Copious amounts of moisture
will be present with this system setting the stage for the
possibility for more flooding rain. Due to the current flash
flood watch being in effect, will hold off on issuing a new
watch until the current one ends. Keep in mind that another
flash flood or flood watch may be issued in the next day.
Rainfall amounts will gradually increase through the afternoon
Wednesday into Wednesday night from southwest to northeast.
There is a slight risk for excessive rainfall across the
forecast area Wednesday night into Thursday across the entire
forecast area. So, stay tuned. Low temperatures tonight will be
in the upper 50s north to lower to middle 60s south of the
stationary front. Then, tomorrow night we should see
temperatures in the lower 60s north to middle 60s south.

.SHORT TERM /TONIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...
Concerns for flooding will continue in the short term. Low pressure
will be over Northwest Ohio at 12Z Thursday with a warm front
extending east northeast along the lakeshore. Areas south of the
warm front in Northeast Ohio may see some breaks in the
precipitation to start the day but these are expected to fill in
quickly as the low continues east through the day. The morning
timing of the system combined with abundant cloud cover will be a
limiting factor for instability on Thursday. There are always
concerns with shear along warm front and that will be monitored but
the Storm Prediction Center only has a marginal risk of severe
thunderstorms southeast of an Akron to Meadville line which seems
fair. Rain will be the main issue with this system with highest
amounts focused along the warm frontal boundary where training will
be most likely. The forecast calls for 1.25 to 1.75 inch of qpf area
wide with the greatest amounts focused on the back side of the low
in NW Ohio and along the warm front in NE Ohio. Areas that have
received heavy rain over the last several days will be susceptible to
additional rises on rivers and flash flooding. High water also
expected along the Lake Erie Shorline from Maumee Bay to Vermilion
given increased flow of 10-20 mph on Lake Erie. This should be short
lived given the shifting flow but a brief window of flooding is
possible. Lowered highs on Thursday given the earlier timing of the
rain to the low 70s.

Conditions should dry out quickly Thursday night with high pressure
building in for Friday. We will see chances of precipitation sneak
in from the west Friday night into Saturday as moisture streams
around the building ridge. Gradual warming expected over the weekend
with temperatures near normal on Saturday.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Ridge continues to amplify over the weekend. Warm front tries to
lift north Saturday night into Sunday and expect sufficient moisture
for scattered showers and thunderstorms. Warm air aloft may be a
limiting factor by later in the weekend for vigorous convection but
showers with scattered thunderstorms possible. Coverage of
precipitation will peak on Monday as low pressure moves through the
Central Great Lakes then drying out on Tuesday.

.AVIATION /06Z Wednesday THROUGH Sunday/...
The main aviation concerns for this update will be IFR
conditions developing from near the Mansfield area to the
Akron/Canton area and up towards Youngstown area. Most locations
across northwest Ohio into northwest Pennsylvania and near the
lakeshore are seeing VFR conditions tonight through the next 24
to 30 hours. There is a stalled front across central Ohio and
areas closer to that boundary are seeing MVFR ceilings which
will decrease to IFR and lower visibilities as well. There may
be some patchy dense fog closer to CAK as well. Expect the
lowest ceilings and vis closer to central Ohio through mid
morning with improvements to VFR by late morning or midday. Rain
showers will return back into the TAFs late Wednesday evening
and overnight through Thursday morning. Scattered stronger
convection could develop but do not have that potential
mentioned in the TAFS at this time. Winds will be mostly light
and variable over the next 24 hours.

OUTLOOK...Non-VFR possible through Thursday night and again
Saturday and Sunday.

.MARINE...
Winds on Lake Erie remain light through Wednesday as a stalled
frontal boundary remains south of the Lake. On Wednesday night, low
pressure will approach from the west and we will see northeast winds
increase to 10-20 knots for a brief time. This will cause both rises
in water levels on the western basin and choppy conditions on the
lake. The exact track of the low will play a role in if we end up
needing a Small Craft Advisory/High Swimming Risk/Lakeshore Flood
Warning. Suspect we will stay below Small Craft conditions but will
see minor lakeshore flooding on the western basin of Lake Erie.
