.SYNOPSIS...
Periods of unsettled weather expected this weekend as a storm
system impacts the area. Drier high pressure is then expected
to build over the region into late next week with another storm
system possible next weekend.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Today: Aloft, the ridge axis will shift to the east as
southwest flow spreads in on the southeast periphery of the
upper low situated across the Midwest. At the surface, a well
defined cold-air damming scenario will be in place, tied to a
1042 mb high centered just north of the Great Lakes. Through the
day, a subtle coastal trough will develop and isentropic ascent
will bring about increasing clouds through the afternoon and
isolated showers that will primarily stay out over the coastal
waters. Land areas should mainly stay dry, with only 20 percent
rain chances in place over the coastal waters and the far inland
zones late closer to the main low level convergence zone
associated with the surface low to the west. Highs are forecast
to rise into the low to mid 50s in most areas, with some low 60s
possible along and south of I-16 in southeast Georgia.

Tonight: The wedge of high pressure will retreat further inland
and north as the surface low pulls closer to the area from the
west. The depth of moisture will increase, especially late in
the night, but the forecast area will remain well displaced to
the south of the main convergence zone along the main wedge
front. This will keep rain chances still relatively low through
the early morning hours, with a sharp increase late. Rain
chances increase into the 60 percent chance range near sunrise
Sunday, mainly for the northern half of the forecast area.
Despite the increase in coverage of showers, the intensity
shouldn't be particularly heavy and rainfall amounts should
generally be less than a tenth of an inch through sunrise. Lows
are expected to range from the low 40s north and inland, to the
low to mid 50s along the south Georgia coast. Temperatures will
likely reach their lows early, then rise through the night as
the wedge retreats northward.

.SHORT TERM /SUNDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
A cold front is expected to move through the area Sunday behind
departing low pressure. Showers will diminish during the day as
the deeper moisture shifts offshore behind the front. High
temperatures will be a bit tricky as much depends on how quickly
the low clouds diminish but we trended more toward the cooler
NAM. High pressure will then prevail through Tuesday, although
upper troughing and a few disturbances will be moving through so
there will be plenty of clouds around which will help keep it
cool, especially on Monday when it may not get out of the 40s in
some areas toward the Pee Dee/Midlands/CSRA.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH FRIDAY/...
High pressure will build in with dry conditions expected until
late week. Temperatures will generally moderate through the
period, likely remaining above normal.

.AVIATION /12Z SATURDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
VFR conditions are expected to prevail through most of Saturday
at KCHS and KSAV. Chances for ceilings to lower into the MVFR
range go up considerably this evening and overnight,
particularly at KCHS. Have delayed the onset of MVFR ceilings at
KCHS a few hours, now starting at 00z. The forecast does not go
IFR. There is a chance, but current thinking is that MVFR will
prevail. At KSAV, conditions could stay VFR through the entire
period, but there is enough support for MVFR to go with it
starting at 04z. Current timing of the arrival of precipitation
favors both sites staying dry through 12z Sunday.

Extended Aviation Outlook: Flight restrictions are likely
Sunday into Monday due to low clouds/rain, possibly IFR at times
Sunday. Brief MVFR ceilings possible into Tuesday. Otherwise no
significant concerns through Thursday.

.MARINE...
Today through tonight: The surface pattern today will feature
an inland wedge of high pressure with a subtle coastal trough
developing across the waters. This will drive a northeast to
easterly flow across the waters. There will be some local
pinching of the gradient depending on the location of the
trough, which will produce winds as high as 15-20 knots
primarily across the nearshore waters. Then through the
overnight, winds will gradually veer around to become
southeasterly late. Speeds should top out in the 10-15 knot
range. Seas should mainly be 2-3 feet, but could get up to 4
feet where the best pinching and winds develop today.

Sunday through Thursday: A cold front will move through Sunday
with high pressure building in thereafter. Enough of a pressure
gradient will exist to yield elevated winds/seas, especially in
the offshore waters, but conditions should remain below Advisory
levels.
