.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure will prevail across the region through the end of
the week. A cold front is expected to move through early next
week, followed by a return of high pressure.
&&
.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
Today: Aloft, upper ridging will prevail across the Southeast
with the ridge axis running right through the forecast area. At
the surface, high pressure will remain in control, centered to
the northeast of the forecast area. Model time heights and
soundings show a very dry atmosphere, resulting in a dry
forecast. Despite some passing high clouds, we should see plenty
of sun which will allow for another day with above normal
temperatures. Forecast highs range from the low to mid 60s
across southeast South Carolina to the mid to upper 60s in
southeast Georgia.
Tonight: The ridge will remain the primary feature aloft with
high pressure persisting at the surface. The forecast remains
dry with forecast lows ranging from around 40 inland, to around
50 at the coast. Cloud cover will increase late as the potential
for stratus development increases. There is also some potential
for fog, but confidence isn't high enough to explicitly carry
in the forecast at this point.
&&
.SHORT TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Thursday: A mid-level ridge will be over the East Coast in the
morning. It's forecasted to gradually strengthen and slowly
shift eastward with time. It's axis should be located just off
the coast late. At the surface, broad high pressure is expected
to prevail along the Appalachians. Subsidence associated with
the high should keep our area dry. Despite northeast winds,
thickness values and 850 mb temperatures support temperatures
nearly 10 degrees above normal.
Friday: Mid-level ridging located just off the East Coast is
forecasted to slowly weaken, allowing semi-zonal flow to develop
over our area overnight. Surface high pressure to our north
will gradually weaken, allowing a weak trough to develop along
the coast. Moisture associated with the trough is expected to
increase across our area, especially by the afternoon. Models
remain in good agreement with showers over the coastal waters
moving into the coastal counties and then dissipating. We
maintained the slight chance POPs in these locations, and dry
further inland. Even with increasing clouds and continue
northeast winds, temperatures are still forecasted to be nearly
10 degrees above normal.
Saturday: The mid-levels will consist of semi-zonal flow
overhead in the morning. The flow should transition to the
southwest as ridging starts to restrengthen along the East
Coast. The coastal trough is expected to strengthen with time,
which will usher even more moisture into our area. Models show
the potential for decent shower activity over the coastal
waters, again moving into the coastal counties and then
weakening/dissipating. However, with more moisture in place and
a stronger coastal trough these showers are more likely to make
it to our inland counties. Given the limited areal coverage
expected over land and little if any QPF, we maintained the
slight chance POPs across the entire area. The airmass supports
this being the warmest day in the short term, with highs into
the 70s for most locations.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH TUESDAY/...
The coastal trough becomes more of an influence Saturday night,
leading to an increasing risk of showers. A strong cold front
is expected to approach from the west on Sunday and move through
Sunday night, bringing a period of showers. The models
generally show high pressure and dry weather returning on
Monday, followed by a divergence of solutions on Tuesday. For
now, we leaned towards the dry forecast on Tuesday.

.AVIATION /12Z WEDNESDAY THROUGH SUNDAY/...
VFR conditions are expected to prevail at KCHS and KSAV through
12z Thursday. There is a low end potential for fog and stratus
development near the terminals late tonight, but confidence
isn't high enough include in the forecast at this point.
Extended Aviation Outlook: Mainly VFR through Saturday. A cold
front should bring flight restrictions on Sunday.

.MARINE...
Today through Tonight: Winds are gradually relaxing across the
local waters. The Gale Warning for the outer Georgia waters will
be canceled and replaced with a Small Craft Advisory that runs
through the period. For the nearshore waters, conditions will
gradually improve through the day and the ongoing advisories
will likely be able to come down in the early afternoon.
Northeast winds will prevail through the period and speeds
should come down to less than 15 knots overnight. By late
tonight seas are forecast to drop off to 2-4 feet across the
nearshore waters and 4-6 feet across the outer waters.
Thursday: A Small Craft Advisory should be ongoing for the GA
waters beyond 20 nm in the morning due to seas ~6 ft. It's
expected to expire later Thursday as seas subside within
northeast winds of no more than 10-15 kt.
Friday and Saturday: High pressure will prevail across the
region, bringing tranquil conditions. Winds will be 10 kt or
less with seas averaging 2-4 ft.
Sunday: A cold front is forecasted to approach from the west,
possibly crossing through the region late. Expect winds and seas
to increase ahead of and just behind the front. Small Craft
Advisories will probably be needed for some of the marine zones.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
For the upcoming high tide (~7am), current tidal departures
seem to favor a peak tide of around 7.7 ft in Charleston Harbor
and 9.5 ft at Fort Pulaski. A Coastal Flood Advisory is in
effect for the entire coast until 9 am.
Persistent northeast winds and residual large tidal departures
will cause tides to remain elevated through at least Thursday.
This will primarily effect the southeast South Carolina coast.
The Thursday and Friday morning high tides could peak around 7
ft in Charleston Harbor and Coastal Flood Advisories could be
needed.
