High pressure will persist through Thursday. A strong cold
front will sweep through the region Friday, then a trough of
low pressure will linger through Saturday. High pressure will
build into the area late this weekend and will prevail into
early next week.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM THIS MORNING/...
High clouds will persist overnight. Nudged lows down a degree or
two for many areas per latest observations. Also lowered winds
to light/calm across the interior where the boundary layer has
decoupled.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM THIS MORNING THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Thursday: Expect another warm day with temperatures recovering into
the lower to middle 80s away from the coast. Southeast winds
enhanced by the sea breeze will maintain cooler temps in the
60s/lower 70s on the beaches. High clouds of varying thickness will
continue to stream across the region. Thursday night, ahead of the
deep upper trough and associated cold front approaching from the
west, increasing onshore transport of Atlantic moisture will produce
an increasing chance for showers, especially along the SC coast late.
By early Friday, sufficient instability could develop to support
isolated thunderstorms especially near the coast.

Friday: Ahead of a deepening upper low and associated surface low
pressure/strong cold front approaching from the west, a variety of
hazards will impact the region Friday. The day will start with
isolated/scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms, with highest
PoPs along the SC coast. Also, ahead of the cold front and
associated thunderstorms, impressively strong low level wind fields
will support at least Wind Advisory conditions especially along/east
of I-95, and 60 knot winds just off the surface suggests that a few
damaging wind gusts cannot be ruled out across the Charleston Tri-
County region. Then, a band of thunderstorms will cross the region
from west to east, perhaps entering our inland/western counties
prior to noon and exiting coastal counties by late afternoon. Strong
forcing for ascent/impressive kinematics should support a severe
weather event. Primary uncertainty rests with instability which is
will depend on morning precipitation coverage and cold fropa timing.
The slower NAM allows a plume of MLcapes as high as 1500-2000 j/kg
to develop over the region, supporting a more widespread severe
weather/damaging wind event accompanied by an elevated threat for
tornadoes. Conversely, the faster GFS/Euro solutions depict MLCape
values remaining mainly below 1000 j/kg, supporting a more sporadic
threat for damaging wind gusts and a limited threat for isolated
tornadoes. In either case, Friday should feature the biggest severe
weather event thus far this year. Friday night, the cold front and
associated thunderstorms/severe threat will shift offshore, leaving
nothing more than isolated/scattered showers across the region.

Saturday: The upper low and associated surface troughing and wrap
around moisture will push through the region, producing isolated to
scattered showers, gusty west-southwest winds and much cooler/below
normal high temperatures remaining in the 60s.

.LONG TERM /SATURDAY NIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
Temps will remain noticeably cooler Saturday night as high pressure
continues to build across the area. In general low temps should dip
into the mid/upper 40s inland to low/mid 50s near the coast. Dry sfc
high pressure will then prevail across the region Sunday through
Tuesday with temps warming each day as a mid/upper lvl ridge axis
shifts over the Southeast United States. In general, high temps in
the mid 70s on Sunday should warm into the low 80s Monday, then
low/mid 80s on Tuesday. Overnight lows should range in the low mid
50s away from the coast Sunday night, then mid/upper 50s inland to
lower 60s near the coast Monday night.

.AVIATION /06Z THURSDAY THROUGH MONDAY/...
VFR.

Extended Aviation Outlook: Strong, gusty south winds are expected
ahead of a cold front Friday, and elevated west/southwest winds will
continue behind the cold front Friday night through Saturday. Also,
flight restrictions are likely in showers and strong/severe
thunderstorms Friday and perhaps in brief showers Friday night and
Saturday. Otherwise, VFR.

.MARINE...
Fairly benign marine conditions expected tonight. The coastal
waters will remain on the western periphery of surface high
pressure. South/southeast winds will average around 5-10 knots,
however will begin to increase to a solid 10 knots late. Seas 2
to 3 feet, highest in the outer waters.

Thursday through Monday: Per area consensus and high confidence,
Small Craft Advisories have been raised for all marine zones for
varying start times Thursday night, followed by Gale Watches for all
marine zones Friday into Friday evening.

Winds/seas will remain below SCA levels through Thursday. Thursday
night, south winds will strengthen and seas will build. Then,
outside thunderstorms intense low level winds should support
frequent gale force gusts and hazardous seas Friday into Friday
evening. Meanwhile, a few thunderstorms could develop over the
waters late tonight into Friday morning. However, a band of
strong/severe thunderstorms producing locally dangerous conditions
is expected to cross the waters Friday afternoon and perhaps into
early Friday evening. Then, in the wake of a cold front passage,
winds will shift toward the west/southwest Friday night, and Small
Craft Advisory conditions are expected to persist into Saturday
night. Thereafter, high pressure will build over the waters, and
more tranquil wind/sea conditions should prevail into early next
week.

Strong winds could produce high surf and an elevated risk for rip
currents Friday.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Elevated tide levels are expected late week with the approach of the
full moon, especially with the evening high tide cycles. Minor
coastal flooding is possible, primarily along the South Carolina
coast, and Coastal Flood Advisories could be needed. In addition to
elevated tides Friday, strong south winds could produce rough surf
and localized beach erosion. Of note, any heavy rain associated with
thunderstorms should not occur at the times of high tide Friday.

Strong Winds: Winds will increase during Friday into Friday evening.
Gusts to at least 40 to 45 mph will be possible outside of showers
and thunderstorms, especially across the South Carolina coastal
counties. A Wind Advisory may be needed for some areas, including
Lake Moultrie.

Coastal Hazards: Seas are expected to build greater than 8 ft late
Friday into Friday Night. The combination of the high seas and
strong south winds will likely yield an enhanced risk for rip
currents and beach erosion at the beaches. In addition, shallow
coastal flooding could develop around the evening high tide Thursday
and Friday, especially along the lower South Carolina Coast. A High
Surf and Coastal Flood Advisory may be needed.
