.SYNOPSIS...
A coastal trough will remain offshore tonight while high
pressure prevails to the north. Strong low pressure will move
out of the Gulf of Mexico and impact the area late tonight into
early next week, bringing periods of heavy rain, windy
conditions near the coast, elevated tides and hazardous marine
conditions. High pressure will then build into the region with
above normal temperatures from the middle of next week into
next weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM SUNDAY MORNING/...
No major changes with the latest update. Radar indicates some
light rain/drizzle mostly near the coast and farther inland
across GA. Overrunning/isentropic ascent on the western side of
the coastal trough offshore will continue to lead to some mostly
light rain pretty much anywhere across the forecast area this
evening with a more steady rain likely to spread northeast from
the Gulf of Mexico toward daybreak, mainly staying south of
I-16. Amounts through daybreak should only be about 1-2 tenths
of an inch or less. Low temps likely to range from near 40
around Lake Moultrie to the mid 50s near the GA coast.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM SUNDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Sunday and Monday will feature a significant storm which will
produce a variety of hazards, including the potential for
record-setting, excessive rainfall and associated flooding.
Sunday and Sunday night: Ahead of an unusually deep upper low and
associated surface low along the Gulf Coast, deep layered moisture
will already be overrunning the surface wedge of high pressure which
will only gradually retreat from our region. Strong, deep and
focused forcing for ascent, sustained transport of PWAT values
exceeding 1.50 inches and elevated instability will combine to
enhance the potential for heavy rainfall, as early as Sunday
afternoon across SE GA counties along/south of Interstate 16,
including the Savannah vicinity, then advancing across the remainder
of the forecast area farther north Sunday night.
Monday: The impressive upper low will advance into northern FL, and
a surface low could redevelop off the SE coast. Across southern
counties, a dry slot could bring an end to steady, heavy rain by
Monday afternoon/evening, but not before the accumulation 3-5 inches
of rain with locally higher amounts. Farther north,
continued/persistent onshore moisture transport and elevated
instability within the deformation axis on the periphery of the
upper low will cut off the advance of the dry slot and should
maintain the threat for convectively enhanced, heavy rain across
northern counties, including the Charleston Tri-County region, into
Monday night. Thus, storm total rainfall amounts are higher across
northern counties, in the 4 to 7 inch range. Locally greater amounts
could occur especially if/where training of convection/enhanced
rainfall rates occurs.
Also of note, a period of strong winds could occur along the coast
Sunday night through Monday, and Wind Advisories could eventually be
required especially along the SC coast.
Tuesday: Deep layered low pressure will exit the Se coast and will
gradually advance into the Atlantic, so conditions will gradually
improve. Showers could persist well into the afternoon especially
along the coast, but the threat for heavy rain will have ended.

.LONG TERM /TUESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Models are in decent agreement showing high pressure driving the
weather pattern. Expect dry conditions and warmer temperatures.

.AVIATION /03Z SUNDAY THROUGH THURSDAY/...
KCHS/KSAV: Mostly VFR until around 10Z at KSAV and 16Z at KCHS.
IFR cigs, and possibly IFR vsbys due to heavier rain, could
start around 18Z at KSAV and possibly around 21Z at KCHS.
Extended Aviation Outlook: Strong low pressure passing nearby
will bring flight restrictions into early Tuesday. Expect low
ceilings, reduced visibilities in +RA and/or TSRA, gusty winds,
and maybe wind shear. VFR returns later Tuesday through
Thursday.

.MARINE...
Tonight: A tight pressure gradient will persist across the lcoal
waters and solid Small Craft Advisory conditions are expected
for all waters with winds averaging 20-25 kt with gusts to 30
kt. Seas should peak up to 7 ft within the nearshore waters and
9 ft in the offshore waters.
Sunday through Thursday: Due to tightening surface pressure
gradient and intensifying low-level winds, frequent gale force
gusts could develop across coastal waters, especially outside
Charleston Harbor, Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Then, as
the surface low advances toward the north, the band of strongest
winds will also shift north later Sunday night into Monday.
Accordingly, ongoing Small Craft Advisories transition to Gale
Watches starting at 12z Sunday across AMZ374 and at 18Z Sunday
across all near shore zones outside Charleston Harbor. Then, the
potential for Gales should shift out of GA waters close to
midnight tomorrow night then out of SC waters by early Monday,
although stronger winds could persist into Monday afternoon
across AMZ350. The low pressure and worst conditions will
advance offshore Tuesday, but elevated winds/seas will persist
through midweek.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
Coastal Flooding: There is a risk for at least minor to moderate
coastal flooding for all coastal zones outside of Tidal Berkeley
perhaps as early as Sunday morning but more likely Monday morning,
as strong low pressure impacts the area. Of particular concern, the
Monday morning high tide level will depend on the track/strength of
the low pressure and associated winds. If conditions align, the
Monday morning high tide could produce moderate to major salt water
flooding especially in/near Charleston. Also, heavy rain could
coincide with the Monday morning high tide, and this could
enhance the threat for significant flooding, particularly in
Downtown Charleston.
High Surf: Seas will build rapidly late Sunday and Sunday night
across the coastal waters. Breakers of 5 ft or greater could impact
the beaches into Monday, and a High Surf Advisory could be required.
Additionally, the combination of the large surf, elevated tides and
strong NE and E winds will lead to areas of beach erosion.
