.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure across Quebec will move east towards the Canadian
Maritimes today. This will bring a return to dry weather today,
before a cold front brings a few more showers late tonight and
Wednesday morning. Much cooler and drier air will then move into the
region behind this cold front to finish the week.

&&

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...
A weak surface trough has stalled across the region early this
morning. Only a few showers are left along a wind shift boundary and
mainly confined to the western Southern Tier where the warm water of
the Lake is allowing them to last. Besides the surface trough, high
pressure will lead to calm and dry conditions through the morning.
Elevated dewpoints and clearing has allowed valley fog to form
across much of Pennsylvania and southern New York. Fog may expand
into the morning hours if clearing continues.

High pressure will persist through the rest of the morning before a
southerly flow picks up ahead of the next system. Warm air advection
and a mix of sun and clouds will result in a warm day across western
and north central NY. Temperatures will rise into the mid to upper
70's.

A 999mb low will quickly track from the Upper Great Lakes to
Quebec this evening. An attendant cold front will approach the
region while southerly flow increases across the region. A 50kt
low-level jet will move overhead overnight, increasing moisture
across the region. While these winds will stay elevated, the
pressure gradient will tighten overnight and winds will become
breezy. As the front nears, showers will enter the region from
the northwest this evening and track across the forecast area
overnight. A southwest low-level flow will likely cause
downsloping and drying across the Genesee Valley and Finger
Lakes region. Rainfall amounts will average a tenth to a quarter
inch across far western NY and east of Lake Ontario. Amounts
will likely be less than a tenth from the Genesee Valley to the
Finger Lakes. Warm temperatures expected overnight with lows in
the mid to upper 60's.

&&

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
Cold front will sweep east of the area Wednesday morning. This will
end any linger rain showers as brisk northwest winds advect
noticeably drier air into the region. Low level cold advection
through the day will likely hold high temperatures in the upper 60s
to lower 70s based off 850 mb temperatures lowering to 7-8 C.
Sunshine should return during the afternoon, albeit with a good
amount of diurnal cumulus. It will be breezy Wednesday, particularly
the first part of the day with westerly winds behind the front
possibly reaching 30 mph at times, especially on the lake
plains.

A favorable radiating/chilly night expected Wednesday night as
center of surface high pressure (1022 MB) settles southeast over the
lower Great Lakes. Light northerly flow over Lake Ontario could
cause some clouds to develop along the south shore, but overall
looks too dry for any showers. Overnight lows will be in the
lower 50s on the lake plains, with 40s well inland.

Friday the next trough will begin to move into the western and
central Great Lakes and adjacent portions of Ontario, but the
thicker clouds and showers associated with this feature are expected
to remain north and west of our area through late Friday. There will
be some increase in high clouds. Temperatures aloft begin to
recover, supporting highs in the lower 70s at lower elevations and
mid to upper 60s for the higher terrain.

.LONG TERM /FRIDAY NIGHT THROUGH MONDAY/...
Late Friday night into Saturday, low pressure tracks across northern
Ontario into Quebec, dragging another stronger cold front across the
Lower Great Lakes. Could see some showers along the front, but looks
like only low chances as stronger height falls and jet dynamics
keep better chances well to north of the lower Great Lakes.
Slightly better chances for showers may occur occur on Saturday
with instability showers developing due to steepening lapse
rates with the arrival of cooler air aloft. Chilly air continues
to flow across the Great Lakes by late next weekend with H85
temps still progged in the 2-3C range by next Sunday. After
highs in the upper 60s to near 70F on Saturday, expect highs
mainly in the 60s on Sunday, with the normally cooler locations
in the Southern Tier and east of Lake Ontario staying in the
50s. Certainly could be some lake effect showers to close next
weekend given the extent of the colder air.

Upper flow flattens Sunday night into Monday so the cooldown for the
weekend does not have much staying power. If skies remain clear on
Sunday night as sfc ridge crosses, PWATS well under 0.5 inch point
to prime cooling with typical cool spots dropping into at least the
upper 30s while readings on the lake plain may even drop into the
upper 40s to near 50F. Highs on Monday under mostly sunny skies will
bounce back into the upper 60s to lower 70s with return flow
starting back up as high pressure begins to depart.

.AVIATION /08Z TUESDAY THROUGH SATURDAY/...
Flight conditions will continue to deteriorate early this morning.
Besides KBUF, MVFR/IFR conditions are present at the TAFs sites as
low stratus build overhead. MVFR CIGS will soon occur at KBUF.
Patchy fog is also around the region and may expand to the TAF
sites. The best chance will be if clearing occurs. High pressure is
dominant early this morning resulting in calm or nearly calm winds.
A few showers will be possible at KJHW early this morning as a wind
shift continues to track southward. Most of the activity will be
near the Lake.

Fight conditions improve to VFR by mid-morning as mixing commences.
A southerly flow will increase this afternoon ahead of the next cold
front. Dry conditons expected today.

Moisture increases tonight as a 40-50kt low-level jet moves
overhead. There is some question as to how much wind mixes down to
the surface so low-level wind shear has not been added to the TAFs
but is possible. Showers will move into the region from the
northwest this evening and spread eastward overnight. Flight
conditions will drop again but the breezy conditions will keep most
locations at MVFR.

Wednesday...Improving to VFR. Showers ending W-E.
Thursday through Saturday...Mainly VFR.

High pressure will remain across the waters today, providing a
period of relatively light winds. A cold front will then cross the
eastern Great Lakes Wednesday morning. South winds will increase
tonight ahead of the front, with winds becoming west and northwest
behind the front later Wednesday and Wednesday night. This will
bring a period of Small Craft Advisory winds/waves tonight and
potentially last through Wednesday night.
