Dreary conditions this evening with light rain and drizzle lingering
overnight. Associated storm system lifting N will bring scattered
showers Friday. Seasonable and dry conditions Saturday beneath high
pressure Saturday. Sunday onwards, chance showers and possible
thunderstorms during the week into the weekend with near-seasonable
temperatures throughout.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM FRIDAY MORNING/...

7 pm update ...

Is this June or November? Dreary conditions this evening with an
abundance of moisture in place cooled by E/NE flow round an area
of low pressure lifting into the Gulf of Maine. Temperatures and
dewpoints roughly the same, hovering around the low to mid 50s.
Beneath a warm-dry inversion per latest RAP model soundings and
as inferred per water vapor satellite trends, moisture has pooled
and become trapped. While showers / drizzle conclude and winds
diminish this evening, the expectation is that with boundary layer
cooling over- night that low clouds and/or fog will be an issue
over all of S New England, fog especially for E/SE New England,
in some areas dense ... notably southeast MA. Winds shifting out
of the SW overnight, becoming breezy along the S-coast. This
could limit the possibility of dense fog as gusts develop. Most
other areas winds will be light promoting fog.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH FRIDAY NIGHT/...

Friday...

The upper trough sweeps from the eastern Great Lakes Region eastward
across NY State and New England. The trough has a cold pool. However
the upper flow remains southwest much of the day and this will
advect the colder temps aloft into Vermont and Quebec. Over southern
New England, some cold advection does occur at H850, which will
steepen low level lapse rates. Dry air at the mid and upper levels
remains in place. Just enough low level moisture to generate diurnal
cumulus and isolated to scattered, mainly light showers. CAMs are in
support of this. Will go with a slight chance to low chance pop.

Mixing should reach to 850 mb, where temperatures will be 6-8C.
This would support high temps in the upper 60s to mid 70s. Across
the higher terrain of the east slopes of the Berkshires, temps may
be somewhat cooler, in the low to mid 60s. Winds in the mixed layer
will be 20-25 kts, so west wind gusts should reach that same range.

Friday Night...

Drier air moves in aloft with clearing skies overnight. Cooling at
the surface will lead to inverted profiles keeping any stronger
winds aloft, with potential for decent radiational cooling. Low
temperatures dip into the upper 40s and 50s under building high
pressure.

Flat pattern through which W-E progressive Pacific waves yield shots
of showers, possible thunderstorms, along a wavering surface frontal
boundary throughout the week into next weekend.

As alluded to yesterday, Gulf of AK low (+EPO) promotes split flow
across western N America. Warmer than average conditions and higher
H5 heights over the CONUS, Hudson Bay energy is bowled northward up
against Greenland blocking (-NAO/-AO) into mid-June. Mid-latitudes
becoming wide-open through which mid-level Pacific energy quickly
streams along the transition zone, its surface reflection a wavering
frontal boundary right across New England wedged between a N-Central
Atlantic high and aforementioned bowled energy over the Hudson Bay.

However weeks end the Rossby wave train pushes E with strengthening
high pressure over E Russia / Bering Straight (-WPO) building into
the Gulf of AK (-EPO). Nudging the downstream pattern with a hold-up
on the Pacific, energy and cooler conditions downsheared across the
CONUS, perhaps by late week into the following weekend heights and
attendant surface frontal boundary lifts N giving us a reprieve.

Low confidence forecast given anticipated weak wave lows that will
likely be poorly resolved by global forecast guidance further out in
time along a N-S wavering frontal boundary along the aforementioned
transition zone. Near-seasonable conditions. Preference to ensemble
means. Again, on and off showers and possible thunderstorms, perhaps
some bouts of heavy rain.

Still looking like the pick of the weekend. Hold off the rain till
later. High pressure in control. Seasonable temperatures in the 70s,
cooler along the shore, low dewpoints. Winds turning out of the S.
Increasing clouds overnight, thickening, with the chance of showers
towards Sunday morning in advance of a sweeping cold front becoming
weak and diffuse. Slight chance PoPs late Saturday night.

Sunday onward ...

On and off showers, possible thunderstorms. Chance PoPs. Reiterating
what was stated yesterday as run-to-run and model vs. model forecast
guidance has once again exhibited poor continuity ... likely global
models will struggle with anticipated weak wave disturbances through
the pseudo-zonal flow along the W-E frontal boundary wavering N-S.
The juxtaposition of wavering front along with timing and morphology
of individual wave impulses will remain highly uncertain, thus a
consensus forecast approach is being taken with ensemble means. Low
confidence forecast. Play it day by day as additional model forecast
guidance becomes available.

as 30 kts especially along the immediate S-coast.

as seas range around 4 to 6 feet. A period of light winds will allow
SCAs to drop, but towards morning SW winds will increasing to around
10 kts with gusts around 20 kts resulting in the return of near-
shore SCAs while persisting on the outer-waters.

Friday...
SW winds will gust to around 25 kt at least on the S coastal waters,
