.SYNOPSIS...
Low pressure will track over SE Mass this evening, bringing
periods of heavy rain to much the region as well as localized
flooding possible due to poor drainage. A weak front will bring
a round of showers Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, followed
by mainly dry weather through Thursday. Low pressure will develop
along a cold front as it approaches the region, bringing another
round of showers Thursday night through Friday night. Dry, cool
conditions move in Saturday as high pressure crosses the region.
Another system may bring unsettled conditions late this weekend.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM TUESDAY MORNING/...
10 pm update ...
Threat of urban, poor-drainage flooding continues mostly over
N/E MA. Continual stacking low, squashing itself out, however
still a decent tongue of high theta-E / low-mid level moisture
wrapping inward, undergoing deformation with frontogenetical
banding (you can see this coming to fruition over E / NE MA to
the W of a weak spin off of Boston). Not so much rainfall rates
but rather prolonged rainfall over saturated soils. Another
inch forecast over N/E areas of MA with light to moderate rain
going through Tuesday morning despite a weakening trend as the
storm lifts out N/E.
FLOOD WARNING issued for the Sudbury River at Saxonville with
forecast trends and anticipated river response.
Meanwhile, evaluating HREF trends, higher confidence of patchy
dense fog across E / SE New England, Outer Cape and Nantucket
especially. Visibility down to a quarter mile already observed
at Nantucket.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY NIGHT/...
Rain may linger into the morning hours, but should dissipate soon
after 12Z. Tuesday will be cooler as winds turn northerly as the
low exits the region. Skies will briefly clear Tuesday afternoon
before clouds move in from the west as a another system inches
towards southern New England.
As the next system approaches the region, winds will veer to the
south briefly Tuesday night before a weak cold front enters the
region. The cold front will enter the region early Wednesday
morning along with associated rain showers. Models are indicating
that the precip will be light with QPF generally under a quarter
inch. Overnight lows will be slightly above normal with temperatures
near 50 degrees.

Details...
Wednesday and Thursday...
Scattered showers will exit as the cold front pushes offshore
Wednesday morning, then winds shift to W-NW during the
afternoon. Low level mixing moves in by midday Wednesday, but
noting H95 and H925 winds at 20-25 kt, so gusts look to mix
to around 20 kt. H85 temps also lower during the afternoon,
down to around +1C across central and western areas by 00Z Thu.
Should see high temps ranging from the lower-mid 50s across the
higher inland terrain to the mid 60s across the coastal plain
where milder temps linger through a good part of the day.
With a fast, broad NW steering flow as the H5 short wave lifts
NE Wed night, surface high pres builds across. The ridge does
start to break down as it crosses Thu afternoon, so winds will
back to light W-SW. Expect partly to mostly sunny conditions
through this timeframe. Temps will run around 5 degrees either
side of normal for late April on Thursday.
Thursday night through Friday night...
Next weather system in the fast mid level flow approaches
Thursday night as clouds increase. Open H5 long wave trough
digs from the Great Lakes to the mid Gulf coast Thu night, so
will see a general southerly wind flow in place. Moisture out
ahead of this system may bring scattered showers in mainly
after midnight Thu night.
Best chance for showers with this system are forecast to occur
from around or after midnight Thu night through Friday evening
before exiting late Fri night. Will see QPF amounts ranging from
about 0.3 to 0.4 inches along the S coast to 0.5 to 0.9 inches
N of Cape Ann to the E slopes of the Berkshires by the time the
precip tapers off from 00Z-06Z Sat. With cloud cover and
rainfall, temps will run close to or a few degrees below normal.
Saturday through Monday...
Noting the mid level steering flow flattens out late this week,
so weather systems will steadily progress across the lower 48.
As the cold front clears the coast by midday Saturday, will see
dry by cool conditions. Temps will run around 5 degrees below
seasonal normals, though may be even cooler across the higher
inland terrain.
Clouds will increase Saturday night as the next weak system
approaches. Low pressure crosses the Great Lakes early Sunday,
with a warm front pushing north of the region by midday. Will
see spotty showers move in by midday Sunday, with the best
chance across the Route 2 corridor of N Mass to the E slopes of
the Berkshires Sunday afternoon.
The front clears through quickly Sunday night, along with the
trailing cold front. Any leftover showers should end from W-E
during the night as winds shift to W. High pressure builds in
again on Monday, with NW winds gusting to around 15 kt or so.
Highs are forecast to run around 5 degrees below normal during
this timeframe.
