.SYNOPSIS...
High pressure now offshore will maintain dry weather tonight
and Wednesday morning. A cold front moves across New England
later Wednesday, bringing a period of showers into Wednesday
night. At this point, Thanksgiving looks mainly dry, but it will
be windy and a bit chilly. Canadian high pressure will bring
dry and rather chilly temperatures Friday into Saturday. A
potential storm may bring rain and/or snow to the region
sometime Sunday into Monday.

.NEAR TERM /THROUGH TONIGHT/...

High pressure just offshore with a light southwest flow into
Southern New England. Stalled front expected along the Nrn
border of MA, but also plenty of dry air in place. Thus, a dry
night with a few mid-high clouds aloft. Dew points in the 30s,
so overnight low temps should also be in the 30s and low 40s.

.SHORT TERM /WEDNESDAY THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT/...

Low pressure moving out of the southern Rockies will cross the
Great Lakes Wednesday and New England Wednesday night. Low level
warm advection moves north over us toward midday, with lift over
the stalled front leading to precipitation Wednesday afternoon
and night. The system cold front sweeps across our area early
Wednesday night. Upper low and its cold pool move over us
Wednesday night.

This points to a rain/shower forecast focussed on Wednesday
afternoon and night. The strongest forcing will be north of the
stalled front, so mainly north of our area. But enough in place
over us to support precipitation. Temperatures are forecast
above freezing Wednesday afternoon and night, so expect pcpn to
be rain all areas. If there is a chance of snow, it would be in
the Berkshires after cold fropa Wednesday night. PW values
forecast around 1 inch, which is adequate but not excessive.

After fropa, winds swing from the west and northwest, with the
surface pressure gradient generating increasing speeds after
midnight as it moves off toward the Maritimes. This draws cold
advection into our area, which will bring strong wind gusts to
the surface. The main area of wet weather will end, but the
upper low and its -28C cold pool will maintain a chance of
showers into the night.

Winds in the mixed layer will support 25-35 kt over land and
35-40 kt over water during the early morning. Best chance for
Wind Advisory criteria will be over Cape Cod and Islands, but
not enough confidence to put up that headline at this time.

.LONG TERM /THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
Highlights...

Details...

Thanksgiving...

The previously mentioned low pressure system will be intensifying
quickly as it moves off the coast of New England early Thursday,
tightening the surface pressure gradient. So, while precipitation
tapers off (we could see some lingering showers or high elevation
snow showers linger into the morning), winds will become quite
gusty. Given the tightening pressure gradient, 40-45kt 850mb LLJ,
and good mixing in the CAA pattern, we'll likely see widespread NW
winds gusting to 35 to 40 mph, with some locations gusting up to 50
mph. A Gale Watch has been issued over the waters for Wednesday
night into Thursday, and we'll be monitoring for the necessity of a
Wind Advisory. N/NW winds and low level CAA keep highs a bit cooler
than Wednesday, with the warmest temps early in the day. Highs top
out in the 40s, though the wind will make it feel colder. Winds
continue to blow into Thursday night, but they will be on the
decrease.

Friday and Saturday...

The pressure gradient relaxes on Friday as high pressure moves in.
Friday and Saturday will be cooler and dry as high pressure over QC
moves east, extending into southern New England. Northerly flow
around the high brings high temps in the 30s, closer to 40 along the
south coast. Lows drop by several degrees as well, into the upper
20s and 30s.

Sunday and Monday...

The second half of the weekend into the early part of next week will
bring what has the potential to be the most impactful weather of the
forecast, especially given that it comes on a busy travel day. A
potent shortwave ejects from the Plains Saturday headed toward
southern New England by Sunday and Monday. At the moment global
guidance continues to indicate potential for a low track close
enough to the 70/40 benchmark to bring us impactful winter weather
including accumulating snow. However, ensemble guidance paints a an
uncertain picture with a wide range of tracks and strengths
possible. In any case, at day 6 and 7 time frame, it is too soon to
put much confidence in any one solution. At this point we'll simply
highlight the Sunday/Monday time frame as one to watch for a
potential winter storm.

to around 2000 feet briefly in the evening. Ceilings of
2000-2500 feet linger much of the night. Vsbys lower to 3-5 nm
in showers late afternoon and early Wednesday night, then
improve above 6 nm during the night. Lowest conditions in the
Central Hills and near the Berkshires. West winds increase later
Wednesday night with gusts 25 to 35 kt.
