.UPDATE...

Issued at 1005 PM CST Wed Feb 6 2019

No changes with this product issuance. Headlines remain valid.

UPDATE Issued at 630 PM CST Wed Feb 6 2019

No major changes to the forecast. Mostly clear conditions
northwest (which no model has depicted) has resulted in
temperatures there plummeting. Adjusted as needed. Otherwise
forecast elements remain on track for this evening.

&&

.SHORT TERM...(This evening through Thursday)
Issued at 131 PM CST Wed Feb 6 2019

The band of heavy snow is finally shifting off to the northeast
and giving way to more widespread light/moderate snow. An
additional 2-4 inches seems likely through tonight across the
warning/advisory area.

As arctic air filters in and the pressure gradient tightens,
winds will increase with gusts to 35 mph possible across the
southern James River Valley tonight and into Thursday morning.
Blowing and drifting snow is likely across the warning/advisory
area. Snow will exit late tonight, but the stronger winds will
remain through most of the day tomorrow leading to blowing and
drifting snow through the day.

The other story will be the wind chills. Widespread advisory
criteria wind chills in the 25 to 35 below zero range have been
observed today and will continue through tonight/tomorrow. The
Wind Chill Advisory will likely be upgraded to a warning for
Thursday night.

.LONG TERM...(Thursday night through Wednesday)
Issued at 131 PM CST Wed Feb 6 2019

The long term forecast period is characterized by the continued
arctic air outbreak.

Arctic air remains in place over our area during the long term
period, with another reinforcing shot of dangerous cold behind
the Wednesday/Thursday storm. The end of the work week is shaping
up to be the coldest part the week. Temperatures will fall to the
20 to 35 below range by Thursday night. During this time frame,
wind chill values will likely approach 40 to 55 below across much
of western and central ND.

As the arctic high moves southeast on Friday, a low amplitude
progressive trough will bring periodic chances of light snow to
the area through the weekend and slight temperature moderation,
but model agreement remains poor regarding wave timing.

&&

.AVIATION...(For the 00Z TAFS through 00Z Thursday evening)

Issued at 630 PM CST Wed Feb 6 2019

Periods of moderate to heavy snow, northwest winds gusting
between 25 and 35 mph, and blowing snow will be likely at KJMS
where MVFR-IFR conditions are expected. VFR/MVFR ceilings are
forecast across the rest of the area tonight. Northerly winds
will increase later tonight across portions of central and eastern
North Dakota and will persist through tomorrow.
