.AVIATION...
Low cigs are expected to gradually lift from west to east this
afternoon. Thunderstorms may form in a line in eastern New Mexico
late this afternoon and then they will head this way. Dalhart
looks to have the best chance of thunderstorms. The storms may
decrease in intensity as they move toward GUY and AMA early this
evening. Skies are expected to be VFR after the rain and this
should last through the rest of the forecast. Southerly winds
overnight will turn more to the southwest and west by mid morning
on Friday and they will increase into the 30 to 35 knot range with
higher gusts.

AVIATION...
For the first 18 hours of the 12Z TAF period, conditions will be
less than favorable, especially for KDHT and KAMA. Within this
time period CIGs and VIS will be reduced to IFR and even LIFR at
times. Starting around 21Z, LLWS will become a problem with a low
level jet coming over the area. Winds from the surface to 2k ft
could easily be a 40 kt difference easily. Some isolated scattered
showers and thunderstorms will be possible across the area as
well. However, confidence is low on when and if one of the
terminals will be impacted. Therefore, have left out of the TAFs
at this time. Conditions should start to improve around 06Z
Saturday as dry air moves into the area.

SHORT TERM...Today through Tonight

Isolated to scattered showers will be possible on and off through
the day today. Thunder cannot be ruled out with MLCAPE values
between 300 and 800 J/Kg. Currently as of this writing some
showers and thunderstorms are happening in the western FA. The
only model to pick on this has been the CONSShort, which was used
for the short term PoPs. Positive theta-e advection at H7 will
continue through the day with some PVA being the main lifting
mechanism for showers. This afternoon the surface pressure
gradient will tighten up increasing the surface winds to about 20
mph with higher gust this evening. Also, at this time a leeside
surface low will develop in northeast Colorado. An associated
Pacific front will come barreling in from the west this evening
turning the winds to the west and bringing dry air back to the
area.

LONG TERM...Saturday through Friday

Closed mid and upper low will track east across the central
Plains states Saturday bringing a narrow window for strong
downsloping westerly winds Saturday morning until around early to
mid afternoon Saturday. The winds are expected to diminish from
northeast to southwest Saturday afternoon as the vigorous closed
mid and upper low tracks further north and east away from the
Panhandles. A cold front will move southeast across the
northeastern and eastern portions of the forecast area Saturday
evening into Saturday night. Slightly cooler but remaining dry
Sunday. Upper ridge builds over the InterMountain West early next
week allowing for dry and warmer conditions through the middle of
next week. A weak cold front expected to push through the
Panhandles Monday night into Tuesday morning with no real
appreciable changes expected. A stronger cold front moves through
the Panhandles late Wednesday night into Thursday and may bring
some possible precipitation to the northern Panhandles Thursday.
Left Thursday dry for now as confidence low this far out in time.
Much cooler during the latter half of next week, especially next
Thursday and Friday.

FIRE WEATHER...

Another closed mid and upper low moving across the central Rockies
into the central Plains states on Saturday will bring another day
with westerly 20 foot winds of around 25 to 35 mph or 30 to 40 mph
with gusts approaching 50 to 60 mph around noon on Saturday.
Projected fuels, at this time, on Saturday are not receptive to
wildfire outbreak given the recent wintry precipitation and
showers during the latter half of this week. ERCs are forecast to
be in the 0-24th or 25th to 49th percentile Saturday despite the
very strong downsloping westerly 20 foot winds expected. Similar
to Tuesday, dew points may actually be lower than the models and
guidance are currently forecasting. Critical fire weather
conditions and even elevated fire weather conditions are not
currently expected on Saturday, however should still consider the
possibility of elevated fire weather as a precaution due to the
strong westerly winds expected. RFTIs Saturday are forecast to be
around 4 with lowest afternoon humidities in the 15 to 25 percent
range.

Thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon through this evening
for portions of the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles. No severe

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday.

Elevated fire weather conditions cannot be completely ruled out
Saturday due to strong westerly 20 foot winds and minimum
afternoon relative humidities of 15 to 25 percent. Recent wetting
of the fuels by precipitation Wednesday night through tonight may
be the inhibiting factor for the development of any elevated fire
weather conditions.

Wind highlights may become necessary on Saturday for strong
westerly winds of 30 to 40 mph and gusts approaching 50 to 60
