FOR NORTHEASTERN SOUTHAMPTON COUNTY...

At 441 PM EDT, a severe thunderstorm was located near Sedley, or 8
miles south of Wakefield, moving east at 15 mph.

HAZARD...60 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...Minor damage to vehicles is possible. Expect wind damage to 
         trees and powerlines.

This severe storm will be near...
  Ivor around 450 PM EDT.

Other locations impacted by this severe thunderstorm include Berlin
and Vicksville.

.SYNOPSIS...
A frontal boundary will remain nearly stationary over southeast
Virginia and northeast North Carolina tonight through Friday,
then pushes southeast of the region Saturday into Sunday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 AM FRIDAY MORNING/...
As of 400 PM EDT Thursday...

A shortwave trough is pushing across the region this aftn as a
stationary front remains from central VA to SE VA/NE NC.
Additionally some enhanced wind continues aloft in the tail of a
200mb jet well NE of the region. This has resulted in 30-40kt
of effective shear, which is in a thermodynamic environment of
~2000 J/kg of MLCAPE. Linear and discrete supercellular
structures have developed capable of producing damaging wind
gusts and localized large hail. Tstms should continue into the
evening and some localized flooding is possible if storms settle
over urban locations. Showers/tstms diminish later this
evening, with some scattered showers lingering overnight in
vicinity of the front. Humid with lows in the upper 60s to mid
70s.

.SHORT TERM /6 AM FRIDAY MORNING THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 400 PM EDT Thursday...

Some semblance of a frontal boundary will linger over SE VA/NE
NC into Friday and PoPs of 20-40% will continue, primarily for
SE portions. PoPs diminish to 20-30% Saturday, mainly for NE NC
and interior SE VA as the frontal boundary slowly sags SE and
the low-level flow becomes SSW. Highs Friday and Saturday will
generally range from the upper 80s to low 90s, with mid 80s
along the Atlantic coast of the Ern Shore, with lows Friday
night in the upper 60s to mid 70s.

Upper ridging begins to prevail by Saturday night and Sunday,
with PoPs of 20% or less. Lows Saturday night will range from
the upper 60s to low 70s. Hotter Sunday with highs into the low
90s, with upper 80s at the coast.

.LONG TERM /SUNDAY NIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY/...
As of 300 PM EDT Thursday...

The models are in decent agreement on the large scale pattern
with a strong Western US ridge and Western Atlantic ridge with a
developing trough over the Eastern US from the Great Lakes into
the Southeastern US. This will keep the chance for afternoon and
evening showers ongoing and gradually increasing from 20%-30% on
Monday to near 50% by Thursday. The models do differ on the
location of the better rain chance areas with the ECMWF focusing
more in the mountains while the GFS has more moisture and focus
for convection in the coastal plain and Piedmont counties. So
for now have blended with a gradual increase in chances area
wide as the week moves on until a stronger cold front finally
pushes toward the area late next week.

For temperatures, have gone with slightly higher readings on
Monday with the lower chances for rain and slight amplification
of the ridge before the upper trough develops Tues-Thursday.
Have highs in the low to mid 90s. For Tues-Thurs have gone more
to the upper 80s to lower 90s with a little more moisture and
clouds around along with slightly cooler 850 mb temperatures.

.AVIATION /20Z THURSDAY THROUGH TUESDAY/...
As of 150 PM EDT Thursday...

A weak front is nearly stationary from central VA through
interior SE VA and NE NC as of 18z. An upper level system is
forecast to track over the region this aftn and early evening,
and showers/tstms are expected to expand in coverage through the
aftn and evening. Showers/tstms are most likely at
RIC/PHF/ORF/ECG, with a much lesser chc at SBY. Brief IFR/MVFR
conditions are possible in vsby along with a few locally strong
wind gusts. The front will remain over the region overnight,
with showers/tstms gradually dissipating. Some IFR stratus is
possible at RIC/SBY/PHF late tonight into Friday morning. The
front will gradually weaken Friday. However, there still is a
20-40% chc of aftn/early evening showers tstms.

The front gradually sags SE of the region Saturday and Sunday
with a lesser chc of aftn/evening showers/tstms. A low
probability of aftn/evening showers/tstms will continue Monday
into Tuesday as a weak trough approaches from the SW.

As of 230 PM EDT Thursday...

No headlines expected into the weekend. A weak front continues
to lag around the southern portion of our local waters this
afternoon and will eventually dissipate off the coast Friday
into Saturday. Onshore flow has generally been 5-10 kts with
around 15 kts at Ocean City. WSW flow expected beginning late
Friday night through the weekend. Winds about 5-10 kts Friday
through the weekend. Waves during the period 1-2 feet and seas
2-4 feet.
