...COASTAL FLOOD ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 AM EDT THIS MORNING...
* LOCATION...Near the Chesapeake Bay and Tidal Rivers across the
Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.
* TIMING...Either side of high tide this morning.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the
most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one
foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas.
Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks
and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds...wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore...and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of road closures and minor flooding of properties. If
travel is necessary...do not attempt to drive through water of
unknown depth.

THROUGH THIS EVENING...
The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a
high rip risk, which is in effect from 8 AM EDT this morning
through this evening.
* LOCATION...Atlantic side of the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore.
* TIMING...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, a few hours on either
side of high tide this morning. For the High Rip Current Risk,
from 8 AM EDT this morning through this evening.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the
most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one
foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas.
Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks
and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
* SURF OR RIP CURRENT RISK... Breaking waves of 5 to 6 feet will
result in rough surf conditions and a high risk of rip currents.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds...wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore...and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of road closures and minor flooding of properties. If
travel is necessary...do not attempt to drive through water of
unknown depth.
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents...longshore currents...sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution
should be used when in or near the water.
There is a high risk of rip currents.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore...which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.
If you become caught in a rip current...relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has cancelled the
Coastal Flood Advisory.
* LOCATION...Atlantic side of the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore.
* TIMING...Through this evening.
* SURF OR RIP CURRENT RISK... Breaking waves of 5 to 6 feet will
result in rough surf conditions and a high risk of rip
currents.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents...longshore currents...sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution
should be used when in or near the water.
There is a high risk of rip currents.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore...which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.
If you become caught in a rip current...relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.

* LOCATION...Near the Chesapeake Bay and Tidal Rivers across the
Northern Neck and Middle Peninsula.
* TIMING...Until 9 AM EDT this morning.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the
most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one
foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable
areas. Some roads and low lying property including parking
lots, parks and lawns near the waterfront will experience
shallow flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds...wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore...and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of road closures and minor flooding of properties. If

AFTERNOON...
The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a Coastal
Flood Advisory, which is in effect until 2 PM EDT this afternoon.
* LOCATION...Along the Chesapeake Bay and Tidal Rivers on the
bay-side of the Lower Maryland Eastern Shore.
* TIMING...Until 2 PM EDT this afternoon.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the
most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one
foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas.
Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks
and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds...wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore...and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of road closures and minor flooding of properties. If
travel is necessary...do not attempt to drive through water of

* TIMING...Until 8 PM EDT this evening.
* SURF OR RIP CURRENT RISK... Breaking waves of 4 to 5 feet will
result in rough surf conditions and a high risk of rip
currents.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents...longshore currents...sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution
should be used when in or near the water.
There is a high risk of rip currents.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore...which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.
If you become caught in a rip current...relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.

Flood Advisory, which is in effect until noon EDT today.
* LOCATION...Along the tidal Potomac.
* TIMING...Until noon EDT today.
* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Shallow flooding is expected in the
most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline
resulting in a low threat of property damage. Expect up to one
foot of water above ground level in low lying, vulnerable areas.
Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks
and lawns near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Coastal Flood Advisory means that onshore winds...wave action
and/or tides will combine to create flooding of low areas along
the shore...and near tidal rivers and creeks. Be prepared for the
possibility of road closures and minor flooding of properties. If

* SURF OR RIP CURRENT RISK... Breaking waves of 5 to 6 feet will
result in rough surf conditions and a high risk of rip
currents.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A Beach Hazards Statement is issued when threats such as rip
currents...longshore currents...sneaker waves and other hazards
create life-threatening conditions in the surf zone. Caution
should be used when in or near the water.
There is a high risk of rip currents.
Rip currents are powerful channels of water flowing quickly away
from shore...which occur most often at low spots or breaks in the
sandbar and in the vicinity of structures such as jetties and
piers. Heed the advice of lifeguards...beach patrol flags and
signs.
If you become caught in a rip current...relax and float. Don't
swim against the current. If able, swim in a direction following
the shoreline. If unable to escape, face the shore and call or
wave for help.

.SYNOPSIS...
A cold front crosses the area this afternoon and evening,
followed by the return of high pressure and drier conditions
Tuesday into Thursday.

.NEAR TERM /UNTIL 6 PM THIS EVENING/...
As of 355 AM EDT Monday...
Latest sfc analysis shows a back door cold front stretched
across northern NC, connecting to a weak low pressure area just
north of KGSO. Another cold front is draped south from low
pressure over NW PA, through the mountains of VA/NC, to the deep
south. Aloft, an upper trough is over the Great Lakes this
morning and will pivot east and across our area through this
evening. In-situ wedge setup is ongoing east of the mountains
this morning with cool/moist E/NE low-level flow producing
overcast conditions. Spotty showers continue to be most
prevalent across the northern third of the FA early this morning
and expect that to continue to be the case thru about 10 am or
so as the cold front to the west approaches. Damp/overcast
conditions will prevail until the second cold front passes this
afternoon. We can expect scattered to numerous showers with and
ahead of the front from late morning into this afternoon, then
lessening showers from west to east later this afternoon and
evening as the front and upper trough move offshore. Temps
gradually rise to around 60/low 60s on the Eastern Shore this
afternoon and into the low/mid 70s well south.

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
As of 355 AM EDT Monday...
Clearing progresses rather quickly from SW to NE this evening,
though the Eastern Shore will take the longest and may alone
achieve a partly cloudy sky toward daybreak Tues. There will
also be an isold shwr or two that lingers over eastern VA/MD
this evening, and on the Eastern Shore all night. With the
clearing will also come cooler conditions. Lows tonight will run
below normal, from the mid 40s Piedmont to the mid 50s SE.
The weather is cooler and drier Tuesday/Wednesday as NW flow
behind the exiting upper trough dominates with high pressure in
place at the surface. Additional isold showers look possible on
Tuesday, but only from the Northern Neck to the Eastern Shore,
as a shortwave rotates around the backside of the exiting NE
trough. Otherwise, the region will be dry through Wednesday but
cool as 850 mb temps drop around 3C-4C on Tuesday and 5C-6C on
Wednesday. This will allow highs in the 60s to around 70 on
Tuesday and in the upr 60s to low 70s on Wednesday. Mostly sunny
on Wednesday. Lows Tuesday night will be in the 40s for many
areas with low/mid 50s near the Bay and ocean.

.LONG TERM /WEDNESDAY NIGHT THROUGH SUNDAY/...
As of 410 PM EDT Sunday...
A trough over the NE will remain on Thurs with a shortwave moving
south out of upstate NY. Guidance today has shifted the shortwave
farther east, so Pops were decreased with less than 20% on the
Eastern Shore for Wed night/Thur morning. The rest of the long-term
will remain dry, except for a slight chance of tstorms moving off
the mountains in the western Piedmont Sat/Sun afternoons. A ridge,
that will be moving across the center of the country during the
middle and end of the week, will propagate east and amplify over the
east coast for the weekend. GFS tries to bring a backdoor front into
the mid-Atlantic, however with amplify ridge the front will likely
stay well north of the area.
Temperatures will begin to increase each day through the end of the
week and weekend. The coolest morning will be on Thursday morning
with lows from near 50 in the Piedmont to 60 along the Atlantic
coast. Highs on Thursday will be in the mid to upper 70s, even
towards the coast with an off shore wind. High temperatures will be
in the upper 80s (may approach 90 in the Richmond metro) and lows in
the mid 60s.

.AVIATION /08Z MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY/...
As of 145 AM EDT Monday...
A backdoor cold front has pushed south of the area into northern
NC this morning. Moist and cool northerly flow behind the front
will allow for IFR CIGS at all terminals through the rest of the
morning (with borderline LIFR conditions possible). In
addition, light rain will impact KRIC thru 08-09Z and KSBY til
around 11Z or so. Will have to watch for areas of fog forming
overnight as the pcpn lessens. IFR CIGs (and possible fog) will
last through around 15Z at KECG, 18z remaining terminals, and
possibly later at KSBY before scattering out. Another round of
scattered showers will cross the area with a second cold front
from the west between 14-20Z. NE winds this morning will become
NW this afternoon with the passage of the second cold front.
OUTLOOK...Improving conditions/primarily VFR Tue-Fri.

.MARINE...
As of 410 AM EDT Monday...
Fairly active marine weather for this time of year. The surge
behind the front was a little stronger than expected, ultimately
allowing waves to build to 4 to 5 feet as far south as the Ches
Bay Entrance. As such, the Small Craft Advisory was expanded
southward to the VA/NC Border and also in the entrance to the
Bay. Winds will diminish this morning, which should allow the
marginal SCA conditions close to the entrance to subside.
However, low pressure will strengthen just offshore of the MD/DE
shore later this afternoon into tonight. This will allow the 6-9
ft waves to continue north of Paramore Island as the winds turn
north. However, these waves should diminish later tonight as the
low moves NE and winds turn NW across the coastal waters.
Another cold front passes mainly north of the area late Tuesday
into Tuesday night as high pressure builds from the west. This
will allow the NW winds to once again increase to near SCA
criteria across all of the coastal waters. Another cold front
passes mainly north of the area Wed night into Thursday morning.
Much quieter marine conditions expected for the upcoming
weekend.

.TIDES/COASTAL FLOODING...
As of 410 AM EDT Monday...
Stronger than anticipated easterly flow has allowed water to
back up in the Ches Bay brining many locations to 1.5 to 2 ft
above astronomical tide. A few sites will likely briefly touch
minor flooding with this tide cycle this morning. In addition,
the northeasterly flow over the ocean has also allowed elevated
water levels on the ocean although Ocean City may stay just
below minor flood. The winds turn north later today then
northwest tonight. This will alleviate any coastal flooding
concerns at the ocean front, but will allow for potental minor
flooding on the eastern side of the Ches Bay. Will likely need
either a statement or advisory for the eastern side of the Ches
Bay perhaps later this afternoon and tonight.
