The National Weather Service in Fairbanks has cancelled the Wind
Advisory. 

The wind has tapered off over the Fortymile Country and Upper 
Tanana Valley late this morning allowing for the cancellation of 
the advisory for the region.

.DISCUSSION...

Synopsis...
Rain, heavy at times will continue across the Interior through
this afternoon, and across the southeastern Interior into this
evening. Flooding remains a concern across much of the middle and
lower Tanana Valley. A weather front will sweep south from the
Brooks Range this afternoon as the rain begins to winds down,
causing strong winds across much of the Interior, particularly
higher elevations. A few showers containing heavy downpours may
also accompany the front southward across portions of the eastern
Interior this afternoon. Northerly flow this weekend will
facilitate clearing skies and cooler temperatures across much of
northern Alaska.

Aloft 500 mb...
Longwave troughing persists across the central and western Bering
Sea as well as the Beaufort Sea and western Canada. A ridge axis
extends northwest into eastern Siberia from a strong high over
Bristol Bay. A shortwave trough will continue to push southeast
through the Interior into this evening, allowing high pressure to
continue building across the eastern Bering and Chukchi seas this
weekend. By Saturday, northerly flow will encompass much of the
state, and by Monday, the longwave troughing over western Canada
is expected to begin retrograding westward, bringing even cooler
temperatures into mid next week.

North Slope and Brooks Range...
A weather front will push southeast through the central Brooks
Range this evening with conditions expected to gradually clear
out into Saturday. Northerly onshore winds will bring cool Arctic
air to the region along with low stratus and fog to the coast as
high pressure strengthens over the northern Chukchi Sea. Some snow
is possible in the eastern Brooks Range as freezing levels drop,
but precipitation will be winding down as this occurs. A light
accumulation of snow is possible on highway summits above 2000
feet tonight into early Saturday.

West Coast and Western Interior...
Rain across portion of the Y-K Delta and Norton Sound coast from
Unalakleet south, is expected to diminish and push offshore as
high pressure builds across the eastern Bering Sea this evening
into the weekend. This will effectively shut off the atmospheric
river event which has brought significant rain to much of the
state this week. High water will continue to be an issue into the
weekend. Temperatures will remain seasonable for much of the
region, though a slight warming trend is expected across the lower
Yukon Valley and Y-K Delta.

Central and Eastern Interior...
Heavy rain will continue to taper off into the evening, though a
few locally heavy showers are possible this evening as the front
sweeps through the region, mainly north and east of Fairbanks.
Showers will linger into early Saturday southeast of Delta
Junction. River flooding will be the main concern well into the
weekend. See the HYDROLOGY section for further details. As the
front moves through this afternoon, Wind Advisories are in effect
for gusty winds up to around 30 mph. Stronger gusts to 40 mph or
better are possible across higher terrain. Heavy rainfall
throughout the week will result in loose ground and downed trees
and may cause power outages.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Widespread wetting rain throughout the week has kept fire weather
in check and favorable conditions for fires are not expected to
develop. Winds this afternoon will be gusty from the west, though
temperatures will remain cool, and relative humidity high into
next week.

.HYDROLOGY...
Many Interior rivers, including the Chena, Salcha, and Goodpaster
will all see a sharp rise in waters this evening into Saturday.
Larger rivers including the Tanana will see slower rises in water
levels, and high water will likely become a concern Saturday into
Sunday. High confidence in flooding on the Salcha, Goodpaster, and
Upper Chena Rivers has prompted Flood Warnings for those basins.
A flood advisory is in effect for the Nenana River from the Denali
Park entrance to Nenana. The advisory extends west into Denali
National Park for the continued threat of small stream flooding
and rock and mudslides.
