.DISCUSSION...
A series of fronts will bring periods of precipitation to the West
Coast through Friday and the North Slope on Friday. Stronger winds
will linger near Barter Island through Friday.

Aloft, at 500 mb, a long wave trough over the Bering Sea extends
into the northwest Pacific with a low centered southwest of the
Gulf of Anadyr. General troughiness will remain in place over the
Bering Sea through the week as the low northeast of the Kamchatka
Peninsula lifts northwestward over Chukotka and a low south of the
Aleutians moves north. A ridge extending northwest from western
Canada, across southeastern Alaska, and into central Alaska will
persist through the week, with the axis aligning over the center
of the state by Thursday, as a low along the Alaska-Yukon
Territory border meanders east of Eagle.

Surface...A 1044 mb low near Banks Island this morning will remain
nearly stationary and weaken through Friday. A 995 mb low near the
Gulf of Anadyr will weaken and drift northwestward today and
tonight over Chukotka. An inverted trough stretching south from
Wrangel Island and across the Bering Sea and West Coast will
linger through Thursday, with a 1006 mb low developing near
Wrangel Island by Thursday afternoon. A 1026 mb high situated near
Fort Yukon this morning will weaken in place through Friday. A low
pressure trough will remain in place north of the Brooks Range
through early Friday with high pressure builds in from the west
as a weather front pushes eastward across the North Slope.

Models...00Z models initialized fairly well against the 00Z and
06Z surface observations. Models remain in good agreement with the
synoptic pattern through Friday, before solutions diverge in
timing and placement of large scale features.

North Slope and Brooks Range: Winds have relaxed across the Arctic
Coast, with the exception of zone 204, where wind gusts are still
pushing 45 mph this morning. Have opted to cancel the Winter Storm
Warning for zone 204, as visibilities were well above warning
criteria for blowing snow and had been for quite some time.
Replaced the warning with a strong wind headline. Winds will
remain stronger through Friday in zone 204, where the pressure
gradient remains tight as a high moves over Banks Island, pinching
the surface trough draped along the North Slope. Winds will come
down during the day Friday, as a weather front moves eastward
across the North Slope and Arctic Coast. Snow will accompany the
weather front as it pushes eastward across the western Brooks
Range and western Arctic Coast Friday and the eastern Arctic Coast
and eastern Brooks Range Friday night and Saturday.

West Coast and Western Interior: Precipitation has for the most
part ended across the area this morning. Next round of snow is
expected to move in this evening and tonight from the southeast
across the lower Yukon Valley, the Y-K Delta, and to the Seward
Peninsula continuing into Thursday. Another round of snow will
move from west to east Friday as a weather front transits the
region. Snowfall totals through Friday will generally be in the 1
to 2 inch range along the coast, with lesser amount further
inland. Gusty winds expected through this evening for the West
Coast, with gusts to 40 mph possible in the Nulato Hills and
eastern Norton Sound.

Central and Eastern Interior: Fairly quiet weather conditions
expected for the next several days. The gradient has tightened
across the region, bringing some gusty winds to portions of the
southeastern Brooks Range and the upper Koyukuk Valley today.
Northeast winds of 20 to 30 mph are expected through this evening
over the summits of the Elliott and Dalton Highways north and west
of Livengood, causing areas of blowing snow and drifting snow over
the summits. The Tanana Valley Jet will continue to produce east
to southeast winds in zone 223 through at least tonight, with
winds expected to remain below advisory level.

Coastal Hazard Potential Days 3 and 4...None.
