.DISCUSSION...
Cooler and blustery over much of northern Alaska.

Aloft, at 500 mb, A cold longwave trough continues to push south
and west over eastern and central Alaska will push into western
Alaska today as the 550 dam high recedes over eastern Russia.
Much colder air is moving in aloft and at the surface with 850 mb
temperatures dropping from around zero to 5 below yesterday to
to 12 to 18 below today over the Central Interior and Eastern
Interior. The strong upper level trough will continue to dig south
and west into Saturday.

On the surface, a broad high pressure remains in place across the
state. A 1040 mb high centered 200 nm north of Utqiagvik will
drift south and east to be located 250 nm North of Prudhoe Bay
and weaken to around 1028 mb by Friday morning.

North slope...High pressure continues to dominate the north slope
through Friday. Clear and cold for most places with spotty low
ceilings or fog.

West coast...The spotty dense fog along the west coast is
expected to continue to move off shore today as strong easterly
off shore winds develop and strengthen through the day. East to
northeast winds will increase today to 20 to 30 mph from the
Seward Penn south. Higher gusts possible over higher terrain.
Winds will decrease late Thursday night into Friday.

Interior...As the high pressure continues to press southward a
strong gradient between the high pressure to the north and the
low pressure system over the Aleutians will produce gusty
northeast winds over much of the interior, especially over the
highway summits. Wind Advisories continue for for zones 219 and
the highway summits and higher terrain in zones 220, 221, where
winds gusts to 40 mph are expected. A Wind Advisory has also been
issued for zone 222 for the higher terrain north of Fairbanks
where wind gusts to 35 mph are possible and wind gusts to 25 mph
are expected in town Wednesday and Wednesday night. Light snow
with generally less than one inch is along the foothills of the
eastern Alaska Range as the front produces weak up slope
conditions.

The 00z model suite initialized well against the 00z surface
analysis and verified well against the 06z surface analysis. Model
spread is minimal through the weekend with good agreement on track
and positions of synoptic scale features into early next week.

FIRE WEATHER...
The cold front that brought much colder temperatures and breezy
conditions to the interior yesterday will continue to produce
cold, dry and breezy conditions through the weekend. Minimum
relative humidity levels are expected to drop into the upper teens
to mid twenties from Fairbanks south to the Alaska Range with 30s
and 40s to the north of Fairbanks this afternoon and again on
Thursday and Friday. Winds in the lowest RH areas to the south of
Fairbanks to the Alaska Range are expected to remain in the 10 to
15 mph with gusts to 25 mph range. Winds from Fairbanks and north
in areas with minimum RH levels around 30 percent are expected to
be in the 15 to 25 mph with gust to 40 mph range especially over
higher terrain, however snowpack remains over much of these areas.

HYDROLOGY...
No significant issues noted. The cooler temperatures will snow
down melt off over the next several days.
