MUCH OF NEW MEXICO...

.Winds will begin to strengthen this afternoon over portions of
west central New Mexico, then become stronger and more widespread
late tonight and Wednesday over the state. Damaging winds with
gusts ranging from 60 to 75 mph are possible Wednesday across
much of central and eastern New Mexico. Very strong winds will
persist Wednesday evening east of the Interstate 25 corridor
before tapering off during the late night hours. Prepare now for
this hazardous and damaging wind event!

THURSDAY...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a High
Wind Warning, which is in effect from 9 AM Wednesday to 6 AM MDT
Thursday. The High Wind Watch is no longer in effect. 

* LOCATION...Union and Harding counties.

* WINDS...Southwest 40 to 50 mph with gusts ranging from 60 to 75
  mph. Wind direction to become west to northwest late Wednesday
  afternoon then north Wednesday night. 

* TIMING...Winds will strengthen Wednesday morning, reaching 
  peak speeds between mid morning and early afternoon, then 
  persist Wednesday night before slowly tapering off early 
  Thursday morning. 

* VISIBILITY...Locally reduced in areas of blowing dust.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Strong crosswinds will create dangerous travel
  conditions along area highways, especially for high profile
  vehicles. Lightweight objects will become airborne, with wind
  damage likely occurring to small or weak structures, power
  lines, trees and vegetation. 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Remember, A High Wind Warning means damaging winds are imminent
or highly likely. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or
gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage.

WEDNESDAY NIGHT...

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Wind
Advisory, which is in effect from 9 AM Wednesday to midnight MDT
Wednesday night. 

* LOCATION...Much of west central and northwest New Mexico.

* WINDS...West to northwest 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50
  mph

* TIMING...Winds will strengthen quickly Wednesday morning, 
  reaching peak speeds between mid morning and early afternoon, 
  then persisting after sunset Wednesday evening before slowly 
  tapering off.

* VISIBILITY...Locally reduced in areas of blowing dust.

* LOCAL IMPACTS...Take action to secure trash cans, lawn 
  furniture, and other loose or lightweight outdoor objects.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

Motorists should exercise caution while travelling. Sudden gusts
of wind may cause you to lose control of your vehicle. Extra
attention should be given to cross winds.

considerable high clouds. Winds to become more swly and strengthen
aft 18Z with gusts of 30 kt to 40 kt across most of northern and
central NM. Sfc low over ern CO to intensify aft 10/00Z as upper low
moves into the Great Basin.

.SYNOPSIS...
Very warm and windy conditions will develop over New Mexico Tuesday
as a potent weather system approaches from the west. Record highs are
likely in the Rio Grande Valley and eastern plains. The combination
of warm temperatures with low humidity and strong winds will elevate
the fire danger. Even stronger winds are on the way Wednesday as a
powerful cold front slams through the state. Wind gusts near 70 mph
are possible over eastern New Mexico with more high fire danger.
Much colder temperatures will move into the region behind this front
along with the chance for a few showers and thunderstorms and high
mountain snow over northern New Mexico. Temperatures Thursday through
Saturday will be 10 to 20 degrees below normal with more wind. Rain
and snow are possible again over much of New Mexico Friday night and
Saturday.

.DISCUSSION...
The recent extended stretch of spectacular weather is about to come
to an end in a big way this week. A storm system crashing onto the
west coast this afternoon with a 120 kt upper level jet will force
record warm advection across NM through Tuesday. 700mb temps will
warm to a daily record value of +12C and this will lead to several
record high temps Tuesday afternoon. A 992 mb surface low deepening
over southeastern NM will also make for widespread windy conditions
and high fire danger. The H5 upper wave over California will deepen
to near 544dm over western CO Wednesday while cyclogenesis in the
lee of the Rockies strengthens to near 979mb. This wind event looks
similar to the historic event from March 12-13, 2019 when gusts in
excess of 70 mph resulted in damage across many areas of eastern NM.
Blowing dust and high fire danger will also accompany this event on
Wednesday. High temps will trend 20-30 degrees colder than Tuesday.

Enough moisture and dynamics will be in place for showers and storms
with mountain snow over northern NM Wednesday and Thursday. Snow
levels will be quite low for early/mid April but QPF is only high
enough to support 1 to 4". Thursday will remain breezy with temps
well below normal once again under mostly cloudy skies. The next
storm system will follow quickly on the heels of the first Friday
with even colder temps, more wind, and better chances for widespread
rain and snow through Saturday. Temperatures don't rebound closer to
normal until early next week.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Red Flag Warning issued for Tuesday afternoon for most of New
Mexico, with another round of critical fire weather likely for east-
central New Mexico Wednesday afternoon.

An approaching storm system from the Pacific will bring in
abnormally warm temperatures and increased southwest winds Tuesday.
Winds will be 20-30kts, with the strongest winds focusing over the
western high terrain. This will combine with very dry conditions,
Haines6, and fuels that have yet to significantly green-up to
produce widespread critical fire weather through much of the state
below remnant significant snowpack. The main storm system will move
through the region Wednesday when the highest potential for damaging
winds will occur. The main jetmax will pass over the southern half
of the state, setting up the south-central mountains and Central
Highlands as the focal point for the strongest winds late Wednesday
morning. Areas of blowing dust will also be likely through southeast
NM Wednesday afternoon. A sharp drop in temperatures will follow the
associated Pacific front with Wed's highs falling 15-30F lower than
Tue. Despite the sharp drop in temperatures, MinRHs through FWZs 106-
107-108 will be near to below critical threshold. Thus, have issued
a Fire Weather Watch for these zones Wednesday.

Valley rain and mountain snow will also be associated with this
system as well over the northern tier of the state, however wetting
precip. will be hard to come by. Snow showers over the Sangre de
Cristo Mtns will likely linger through Thursday as a backdoor cold
front will produce upslope flow through the east slopes. A late
season accumulation of a few to 6" is not out of the question atop
the peaks of the Sangre's through Thursday. Conditions calm Thursday
through Friday with the next chance for wetting precipitation likely
arriving late Friday through Saturday.

New Mexico.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

No hazardous weather is expected.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Tuesday through Sunday

Warm, dry and windy conditions will prevail Tuesday with high
temperatures approaching record values at a number of locales. A Fire
Weather Watch is in effect Tuesday for much of northern and central
New Mexico.

Strong to potentially damaging winds will develop Wednesday as a
Pacific trough races east across the region. The strongest winds will
be along and south of Interstate 40 and along and east of Interstate
25. Areas of blowing dust will limit visibility across much of
southern and eastern New Mexico Wednesday. In addition, showers will
bring several inches of snow to the peaks and higher elevations of
the northern mountains Wednesday through Thursday.

A potent Pacific low may hit New Mexico late Friday through
Saturday, bringing accumulating snow to the mountains and the
potential for thunderstorms to the eastern plains.
