storm exits the region. Winds will quickly strengthen very early 
Saturday morning, then slowly diminish by Saturday evening. 
Sustained winds of 35 to 50 mph with gusts up to 60 or 65 mph will
be possible. Strong crosswinds will impact north to south

The storm to the west will cross NM tonight and deepen as it does so.
Lots of wind and winter weather highlights will be issued with this
package. The snow will diminish in the west tonight and late tonight
in central areas, but last through Saturday morning in the northeast.
Windy to very windy conditions will follow the snow and will be the
main player Saturday. Dry and milder weather will follow for Sunday
through next week.

Main concerns with this storm will be an intense band of
precipitation with the frontal passage this evening across central
areas and during the night in eastern areas. We could be looking at a
flash freeze in portions of the Rio Grande Valley this evening and
late evening in the Estancia Valley. Rain could quickly change to
snow, and while there may not be much accumulation, certainly from
an impact standpoint it could get tricky at the end of the rush hour
around ABQ, and a little later in SAF. Will issue a winter weather
advisory for this scenario for the ABQ and SAF areas as well as the
Sandia/Manzanos and Estancia Valley. Later tonight winter weather
advisories will go into effect for the northeast. Of particular
concern will the far northeast where the combination of snow and
strong winds late tonight and Saturday morning could produce near
blizzard conditions for a few hours. Out west snow will diminish
tonight.

Late tonight and Saturday will turn very windy very quickly in a lot
of places, especially near and south of I-40, as well as in the
northeast. Saturday will be chilly with bitter cold wind chills in
the morning in most places.

The weather will quiet down Sunday with less wind and moderating
temperatures. his will be the case for most of next week as well with
continued dry and milder weather. Moderate breezes could return in
the east central zones later in the week. A back door cold front
Tuesday night will lead to some temporary cooling in the east
Wednesday.

.FIRE WEATHER...
Strong S/SW winds have reached across most of the state with some
additional moisture working into the East Plains. Heavy snow amounts
of 6"-10" have been reported across western NM from Gallup and all
along the Continental Divide. A line of showers will progress
eastward to the RGV later this afternoon near 5pm at first producing
a mix of valley rain and mtn snow, transitioning to all snow later
this evening. The upper low will pass over NM tonight with wetting
precip. and light snow accums occurring over eastern NM into
Saturday morning. Up to a foot of fresh snow is expected to fall
atop the high mountain peaks with 2-4" at lower elevations of
northern and northeast NM by Saturday morning.

The main concern Saturday will be the strong W/NW winds that fill in
behind the storm system as it exits east of NM. Sustained winds of
35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 55 to 60 mph will be possible Saturday
morning through the East Central and Central Highlands, as well as
fire weather zones 105 and 109. Areas of blowing snow will be likely
Saturday morning atop the mtn peaks and across FWZ107. Model
guidance today has been increasing snow accums over the Northeast
Plains tonight and this could also producing areas of blowing snow
Saturday morning when stronger NW winds fill behind the cold front.
Winds will gradually diminish by Saturday evening with Clines
Corners the last to subside.

Calm and drier zonal flow sets up over the state Sunday,
persisting through next week with weak disturbances setting up
breezy afternoon winds each day. Look for southerly return flow
across the east which will be interrupted by a couple of modest
backdoor boundaries next week as well. Ventilation falls to good to
fair.

18Z TAF CYCLE
Mtn obscurations and IFR/LIFR conditions from the Continental divide
westward at this hour as a winter storm system approaches the region
from AZ. Meanwhile, strong south winds have reached through the
lower RGV from KONM up to KSAF with gusts up to 40kts at KABQ. These
winds will continue through the afternoon until about 00Z-01Z when
the Pacific front is expected to bring a westerly wind shift. A line
of snow will follow the fropa from west to east across the western
high terrain before reaching the middle RGV as a mix of valley rain
and mtn sn for KONM up to KABQ. This will transition to all sn by 01Z
continuing to K0E0 and KCQC and the east slopes of the Sangres for
KLVS to KRTN for the 02Z - 06Z timeframe. VCSH and -shrasn will
reach the East Plains from 03Z - 08Z as the upper low moves across
the state. Strong W/NW winds with gusts 40 to 50kts will fill in
behind the front Saturday morning toward the end of the TAF cycle
focusing over the East Central Plains and Highlands.

This hazardous weather outlook is for portions of north and central
New Mexico.

.DAY ONE...Today and Tonight

Winter storm warnings will continue today and tonight across western
and north central New Mexico. A Pacific cold front will race
eastward across the rest of central and eastern New Mexico this
afternoon and evening, and a quick one to two inches of snow will
produce slick roads. West to northwest winds east of the central
mountains and south of I-40 will have the potential to gust to near
60 mph after midnight tonight.

.DAYS TWO THROUGH SEVEN...Saturday through Thursday
Northwest winds across the area east of the central mountains and
south of I-40 will continue Saturday morning, before diminishing
Saturday afternoon. Gusts of 50 to 60 mph are expected to make
travel on north and south oriented roads and highways difficult,
especially for high profile vehicles. Snow in northeast New Mexico
will end before noon with light to locally moderate accumulations.
