The National Weather Service in Tucson has issued a Hard Freeze
Warning, which is in effect from midnight tonight to 9 AM MST
Saturday. A Freeze Warning remains in effect for Saturday night
and early Sunday morning. 

* IMPACTS...These temperatures will damage sensitive and 
  unprotected plants, and damage unprotected outdoor plumbing.

* TEMPERATURES...Morning low temperatures ranging from 25 to 32
  degrees with the coldest temperatures near major washes and in
  outlying areas.  

* TIMING...Temperatures will begin to fall below freezing around
  or shortly after midnight tonight, with the coldest readings 
  near daybreak.

.SYNOPSIS...Dry conditions this morning then isolated showers
developing this afternoon north of Tucson. Widespread valley rain
and mountain snow showers tonight as a low pressure system moves
into northern Arizona. Valley rain and mountain snow to continue
Friday especially east of Tucson, then precipitation ending Friday
night. Expect freezing temperatures or a hard freeze across the
lower deserts Friday night and Saturday night. Dry conditions will
then prevail across much of the area Saturday into the middle of
next week.

.DISCUSSION...The next system remained on tracked with showers
already developing across northern Arizona this morning. Various
wintry type advisories and watches for snow and freeze temperatures
remained in effect as the storm impacts southeast Arizona. The
current forecast looked in good shape. Please refer to the
additional sections for more details.

.AVIATION...Valid through 28/18Z.
Isolated -SHRA developing northwest to northeast of KTUS this
afternoon, then scattered to numerous valley -SHRA and mountain
-SHSN tonight. Precip ending vicinity KTUS westward around or
shortly after end of valid period, but continuing Friday east of
KTUS. MVFR conditions to occur tonight especially across higher
terrain, then MVFR conditions especially higher terrain after valid
period into Friday afternoon east of KTUS. Surface wind generally
under 12 kts this morning. Surface wind this afternoon into tonight
mainly swly 8-18 kts with occasional gusts near 25 kts. Aviation
discussion not updated for TAF amendments.

.FIRE WEATHER...Isolated showers developing northwest to northeast
of Tucson this afternoon followed by widespread valley rain and
mountain snow tonight. Mainly dry conditions Tucson vicinity
westward Friday, but scattered showers to prevail east of Tucson. A
slight chance of rain and snow showers continues east of Tucson
Friday night. Expect dry conditions across much of the area Saturday
into next Wednesday. The exception is a slight chance of rain/snow
showers east of Tucson Monday night. Occasionally gusty southwest to
northwest winds will prevail this afternoon into Friday. Otherwise,
20-foot winds will be terrain driven under 15 mph.

.PREV DISCUSSION...Isolated showers are expected to develop this
afternoon from northwest-to-northeast of Tucson. Scattered to
numerous valley rain and mountain snow showers will prevail tonight.
Expect precip to end from the Tucson metro area westward around or
shortly after daybreak Friday. However, scattered valley rain/
mountain snow showers will likely continue east of Tucson Friday as
the upper low meanders toward the Four Corners region. A slight
chance of rain/snow showers exists Friday night east of Tucson, then
precip-free conditions are forecast to occur area-wide Saturday.

This system will be markedly colder versus the system that brought
recent rain and snow to southeast Arizona. For example, snow levels
by early this evening are forecast to range from 4500-5500 feet.
Snow levels by Friday evening are projected to fall to near 3000
feet across western Pima County and south central Pinal County, and
to around 4500 feet across far southeast sections.

Per coordination with neighboring WFO's, a Winter Weather Advisory
for snow has been issued from 8 pm this evening to 8 am MST Friday
for the the Galiuro and Pinaleno Mountains (including Mount Graham),
and the Catalina/Rincon Mountains near Tucson. The expectation is
that accumulating snowfall will end across these mountains shortly
after daybreak Friday.

A Winter Weather Advisory for snow has also been issued for the
White Mountains from 8 pm this evening to 5 pm MST Friday. A Winter
Weather Advisory for snow is also in effect for the Chiricahua
Mountains in eastern Cochise County from 8 am to 5 pm MST Friday.
Given the expectation for lingering snow showers to continue across
the White Mountains Friday, then snow showers to  develop further
southeast Friday morning and continue into Friday afternoon, this
was the basis for a segmented Winter Weather Advisory.

For this forecast issuance, have opted to not issue a Winter Weather
Advisory for snow for elevations below 5000 feet at this time.
However, a Winter Weather Advisory for snow for some locales below
5000 feet, especially for Public Zone AZZ508 ("Eastern Cochise
County below 5000 feet") appears to ultimately have the best chance
for achieving Advisory criteria (1-2 inches of snowfall). Also,
there is the potential for the White Mountains to achieve Winter
Storm Warning criteria. These are considerations for subsequent
forecast shifts.

Given the aforementioned reference to this system being markedly
colder versus the previous system, appears widespread freezing
temperatures to perhaps a hard freeze will occur Friday night and
perhaps again Saturday night. Please refer to AWIPS product
PHXNPWTWC regarding detail pertinent for Pima County including the
Tucson metro area and southern Pinal County.

The upper pattern this weekend into the middle of next week will
generally be characterized by persistently nly/nwly flow across
southeast Arizona. As such, expect generally dry conditions for much
of the area. However, an stronger impulse/shortwave trough embedded
within this flow regime may produce a few valley rain/mountain snow
showers Monday night east of Tucson. Expect below to well below
normal daytime temps into New Years Day, with the coldest high temps
to likely occur Friday into Sunday. Daytime temps should moderate
closer to seasonal normals around next Wednesday.
