.UPDATE...

High pressure continues to move into the area from the west today,
while a shortwave aloft brings mainly high level cloudiness. This
will shift eastward today. The 12Z TAE sounding allowing for some
cold air advection and limited mixing supports highs in the low to
middle 60s. No major changes were made to the forecast.

&&

.PREV DISCUSSION [557 AM EST]...

.NEAR TERM [Through Today]...

High pressure centered over the central CONUS will dominate today
allowing for dry conditions across the tri-state area. While a few
clouds are possible this morning, they should decrease for the
afternoon. Highs today are expected to be near normal with
temperatures in the low to mid 60s.

.SHORT TERM [Tonight Through Wednesday]...

The start of the short term period will be quiet with high
pressure off to the NE of the forecast area. Later in the short
term period, a strong storm system will begin developing across
the Central Gulf of Mexico and bring another round of rain to the
region.

Tonight...For a fairly simple pattern with high pressure over
the Ohio River Valley, there's a fair amount of spread between the
statistical guidance for overnight lows, with the NAM-based MET
MOS suggesting some freeze potential in the normally coldest
spots. The GFS- based MAV is much warmer and the short term Euro-
MOS is in between the two solutions. While the low level airmass
will be fairly dry, the high position well to the north isn't
especially favorable for temperatures to get down near freezing.
Moreover, some scattered high clouds will be passing through the
region overnight. This all suggests a solution closer to the
warmer MAV guidance is the better choice, with lows in the
generally in the upper 30s across the interior sections and in the
low to mid 40s at the coast.

Tuesday...A transitional day as the initial mid level disturbance
that will trigger surface low pressure development in the Gulf of
Mexico moves across the Central Plains. High pressure departing
to the NE of the region will result in a fairly tranquil day, but
scattered cirrus will keep skies partly cloudy and high
temperatures only in the low to mid 60s. Overnight, increasing mid
and upper level cloudiness will keep temperatures warmer than the
previous night, generally in the low to mid 40s.

Wednesday...As the initial mid level impulse moves into the
Western Gulf of Mexico, this should lead to surface low pressure
development over the Gulf. As this storm system begins to
organize, extensive cloudiness will overspread our region with
rain chances increasing late in the day as isentropic ascent
intensifies. Prior to sunset rain chances will be in the 30-40
percent range across the western half of the region.

Overnight, as the upper trough across the Mississippi River
Valley strongly amplifies and intensifies, the surface low across
the North Central Gulf should further strengthen, leading to
widespread rain across the western half of our region which should
spread quickly eastward across the remainder of the region by
daybreak Thursday.

.LONG TERM [Thursday Through Monday]...

Model guidance is all in good agreement that a strong storm system
moving across the Northern Gulf of Mexico will be affecting our
region at the start of the period. Current guidance suggests the
main low pressure area will be developing and intensifying just
south of the Florida Big Bend Thursday morning, which will keep
nearly all of our region out of any warm sector. This would keep
the threat for any severe weather further south and across the
Florida Peninsula. While the system will be dynamically strong,
the fast movement of the surface low feature would indicate that
rainfall, while locally heavy, should not total up to high
amounts. However, marine impacts could be considerable as strong
winds behind the departing low pressure area could exceed 30
knots, building dangerous surf to 10 feet along the west facing
beaches.

By Friday, wrap around moisture behind the system will keep for a
cool and breezy day across the region. Though precipitation should
come to an end late in the afternoon, low level cloudiness will
likely persist through the night.

Saturday through the end of the period should be fairly quiet.
Temperatures will also be on a warming trend with afternoon highs
approaching 70 degrees by Monday.

.AVIATION...
[Through 12Z Tuesday]

Beyond the brief possibility of MVFR for an hour or two this
morning, VFR conditions are expected. Winds will be northeast
during the day around 5-8 knots with winds decreasing tonight.

.MARINE...
Generally tranquil marine conditions are expected through Tuesday
evening. On Wednesday afternoon, winds and seas will begin to
increase ahead of an approaching storm system. Advisory level
winds and seas are expected by Thursday morning. As the storm
further intensifies, a period of gale conditions is possible
starting Thursday night and continuing through Friday. Winds and
seas should then subside fairly quickly on Saturday.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Red Flag conditions are not expected over the next few days as RH
values remain above critical thresholds.

.HYDROLOGY...

Minor flooding continues for several river points across the
region, mainly from the Chipola River eastward into the Suwannee
River Basin. The Chipola River at Altha may finally fall below
flood stage by Tuesday after an extended period above flood.
Recent rains produced some rises to minor flood within the
Ochlockonee and upper Withlacoochee Rivers. These locations should
crest within the next 36-48 hours.

River levels on the Suwannee will continue to rise. Upstream
Suwannee points above Ellaville are rising steadily, and with
continued high contributions from the Withlacoochee and Alapaha
Rivers, a lengthy period of river flooding is expected throughout
the middle and lower Suwannee. At this point in time, all flooding
from Ellaville through Wilcox is expected to be in the minor flood
category.

The next storm system on Thursday/Friday while strong, is expected
to be a fast mover, producing generally 1-2 inches of rain with
isolated heavier amounts up to 3 inches possible. These amounts
should only cause small rises on area rivers, with some of the
faster responding basins moving back near or into minor flood
stage.
