In the upper levels a ridge is over the Eastern U.S. today and a cut-
off low is over the Great Plains. At the surface a low will be near
Missouri today with a cold front over the Lower Mississippi Valley.
POPs will be low today with a slight chance for a shower or
thunderstorm in the westernmost counties of the region. Expect
increasing clouds in SE Alabama and Panhandle FL as the next system
approaches. Winds will be gusty today with 30 mph gusts possible.
Highs today will be in the lower to mid 80s.

synoptic pattern has been well forecast for the models for the
past several cycles. A deep trough will dig down into the Lower
Mississippi River Valley tonight and this should help reinvigorate
convection along a cold front that at 00z Sunday should be just
west of the Miss/AL border. There are still some subtle timing
differences in the models. The forecast was nudged closer to the
faster guidance as squall line events tend to progress a little
faster than expected. This results in the leading edge of the
convective line reaching our western counties just after 06z
Sunday and then just west of a Tallahassee to Albany line by 12z
Sunday. The line should then move east of the forecast area shortly
after 18z Sunday.

The overall environment is supportive of severe weather Saturday
night and Sunday. The wind field is fairly impressive, with some
of the guidance showing a 50-55 kt 850 mb jet overlaying the area
as the upper trough takes on a slight negative tilt early Sunday
morning. There is some uncertainty as to whether sufficient
instability will be present ahead of the line and this may limit
the extent of the severe weather threat. While near the coast
this shouldn't be a problem, with the storms mainly coming in
overnight, instability will be limited further inland. After 12z
Sunday, some intensification of the line will be possible,
especially if some heating can occur across South Central Georgia.

The main threat with this event is damaging winds. Tornadoes are
also possible given the strength of the low level wind field,
particularly within any convective line segments.

Once the front clears the forecast area on Sunday afternoon, much
cooler and drier air (especially for April) will arrive.
Moderate/strong cold advection will help drop temperatures into
the low 40s overnight.

On Monday, continued cold advection will help keep afternoon highs
below normal even with full sunshine. In fact, some places in our
northern zones may not get out of the 60s.

.LONG TERM [Monday Night Through Saturday]...

The long term period will start out with below normal temperatures
as cool high pressure settles over the area on Tuesday morning.
Low temperatures have the potential to drop at least into the
lower 40s. It would also not be surprising to see a few sites in
the upper 30s as well. Thereafter, a period of generally tranquil
weather with gradually warming temperatures is expected through
Wednesday. The latest run of the GFS shows a weak (mainly dry)
front moving through the area on Thursday, but with limited
moisture to work with, will keep rain chances out of the forecast
for now.

By the weekend ridging at the surface and aloft will overspread
the forecast area which will result in both overnight lows and
daytime temperatures staying a few degrees above normal.

.AVIATION [Through 06Z Sunday]...

VFR conditions are expected to continue with the exception of MVFR
CIGs at ECP until morning. Clouds will increase around sunset
tonight as the next cold front approaches from the west. Southerly
winds will be gusty today. Gusts up to 25 knots are possible.

.MARINE...

Southerly winds will begin to increase this morning in advance of
a strong storm system moving across the Gulf Coast States.
Advisory conditions are expected to begin this morning and
continue through at least Monday morning. Thereafter, high
pressure will build over the marine area and keep winds and seas
low through the remainder of the week.

.FIRE WEATHER...

Drier air will be in place on Monday and Tuesday. Minimum RH values
will remain above critical thresholds for red flag conditions this
week. High dispersion values above 75 are likely today. A wetting
rain is expected late Saturday night into Sunday.

.HYDROLOGY...

A squall line will move through the region late tonight and into
Sunday. With this line moving fairly quickly, rainfall amounts
shouldn't be especially heavy. Most areas should see between 1.5
to 2.5 inches of rain with isolated heavier totals near 4 inches
possible. Some ponding of water in low lying areas could
occur, but widespread flooding is not expected. This rainfall is
also not expected to result in any river flooding.
