VFR conditions are expected through the TAF period with clear skies.
Gusty west to northwest winds this afternoon will diminish rapidly
after sunset. Winds will be light on Thursday.

.PREV DISCUSSION [1005 AM EDT]...

.NEAR TERM [Through Today]...

Northwest flow continues this morning with an upper level trough
across the eastern U.S. and a surface high situated over the Plains.
This surface high will slide southeast today to the Lower
Mississippi Valley by this evening. Highs will warm into the
upper 50s to mid 60s today, around 10 degrees above normal.

.SHORT TERM [Tonight Through Friday]...

The upper level trough will move off the New England coastline
tonight as upper level ridging builds over the Plains. At the
lower levels, a ridge of high pressure will be nestled over the
northern Gulf waters. This will leave the area under deep layer
northwesterly flow until Thursday afternoon, when the lower level
ridge will begin to slide east and bring a return flow of moisture
to the area. On Friday, a piece of a +PV anomaly off the west
coast will break off and roll across the central Plains, helping
develop a storm complex that will begin to move across the
southeast. Scattered showers ahead of this system may reach into
our western zones by Friday afternoon, though chances for storms
will increase Saturday. Highs will be in the 70s and lows will be
in the 30s tonight, 40s Thursday night.

.LONG TERM [Friday Night Through Wednesday]...

A disturbed pattern will prevail in the long term period. The
storm complex mentioned above will cross the tri-state area this
weekend, with the highest chances for showers and thunderstorms on
Saturday. Another upper level +PV anomaly will move into the
central Plains Sunday night, keeping up our chances for showers
and thunderstorms early next week. Highs will be in the mid-upper
70s and lows will be in the upper 50s.

.MARINE...

Strong offshore winds today will gradually lower by this evening,
with seas falling from 2 to 4 feet back down to 1 to 2 feet. High
pressure will move in tonight, but a stormy period is on tap for
this weekend and early next week, with scattered showers and
thunderstorms across the coastal waters. Winds and seas will
generally be low outside of storms.

.FIRE WEATHER...

RH values will fall into the 20 percent range today with most areas
meeting the RH critical threshold. In addition, fuels are dry across
a few counties in the Florida Panhandle and Big Bend, however
sustained winds are expected to remain just below 15mph, with only
gusts expected to reach above 15mph. Given sustained winds below the
critical Red Flag Warning threshold, will not issue a Red Flag
Warning for today. That said, if sustained winds did end up stronger
than forecast, the most likely area for that would be across
southwest Georgia and the Florida Big Bend. Winds are forecast to be
lower on Thursday and thus Red Flag conditions are not expected
Thursday.

.HYDROLOGY...

A disturbed pattern will set up this weekend through early next
week. Due to the more scattered nature of these storms (as opposed
to a more organized cold front), the overall rainfall
accumulations are expected to be low- around an inch or less. No
flooding concerns are anticipated at this time.
