Periods of showers and thunderstorms will continue on and off
through the period with conditions ranging from VFR outside of
convection to IFR or lower near convection with heavy rain and gusty
winds.

.PREV DISCUSSION [813 AM EDT]...

.NEAR TERM [Through Today]...

An upper level trough was situated across the central CONUS this
morning with high pressure situated over the Atlantic. As the tri-
state area is situated between these two features, the CWA will
remain under deep southerly flow today with PW values of 2-2.2
inches. The main focus is on locally heavy rainfall where isolated,
minor flooding will be possible. In addition, with the potential for
a few more organized storms today, SPC has included the area in a
marginal risk - gusty winds are the main threat. Widespread clouds
and convection today will help to limit high temperatures to the mid
to upper 80s.

.SHORT TERM [Tonight Through Thursday]...

An active and wet pattern will continue through the period as a
shortwave trough to the west and a strengthening Bermuda High will
keep deep layer southwesterly flow in place across the region. As
a result, showers and thunderstorms are expected to be widespread

isolated flooding threat through the period. Given widespread
cloud cover and storm coverage, expect smaller diurnal temperature
swings each day through the period, with afternoon highs below
average. Expect highs generally in the mid to upper 80s with lows
in the low 70s.

.LONG TERM [Thursday Night Through Tuesday]...

Moist southwesterly flow regime will remain in place through the end
of the work week with widespread coverage of shower and
thunderstorms expected each day. Medium range operational guidance
continues to bring drier air into the region from the east this
weekend. While showers and thunderstorms will remain in the forecast
through the weekend, coverage will likely be closer to normal for
early August (POPs 30-50%).Temperatures will return to near normal
values, with highs in the 90s and lows in the low to mid 70s.

.MARINE...

Southerly to southwesterly winds will persist through the period
with seas increasing to 2 to 3 feet by mid-week. Chances for showers
and thunderstorms will remain elevated today through Friday.

.FIRE WEATHER...

A wet pattern is expected over the next few days and thus there are
no fire weather concerns.

.HYDROLOGY...

A wet pattern will remain in place through Friday, with widespread
coverage of showers and storms expected each day. While widespread
flooding is not anticipated at this time, isolated flooding will be
possible as the strongest thunderstorms will be capable of yielding
rainfall rates exceeding 3"/hr + at times. The most vulnerable areas
to flooding will be in poor drainage areas, areas with saturated
soils from previous rainfall and in any areas where cell training
occurs. With widespread coverage of storms expected, some area
rivers may see a return of elevated water levels, especially if
excessive rainfall is realized in and around any basins.
