.SYNOPSIS...High pressure will keep a dry and stable airmass over
the forecast area through Friday. Southwest winds will increase
Saturday ahead of a grazing storm system that will bring a cold
front to northern Utah Sunday into early Monday. A significant
pattern change is expected for early next week as tropical moisture
spreads northward into Utah and southwest Wyoming.

.DISCUSSION...The large-scale pattern this evening continues to show
a Rex block over the eastern Pacific while a longwave trough is
centered over the Midwest. This is keeping a dry northwesterly flow
aloft in place over Utah. Meanwhile, Hurricane Rosa, which is
progged to impact the weather over the forecast area next week,
remains off the west coast of Mexico near 17N 115W.
Another night of quiet weather is in store for the forecast area due
to the dry and stable northwest flow. The downstream trough will
flatten tomorrow and an upstream closed low that comprises the
southern half of the Rex block will advance closer to the West
Coast. This will allow the flow over Utah to back and start to
increase, leading to hazardous fire weather conditions for portions
of northern Utah.
Breezy southwest flow this weekend will precede the tropical
moisture from Hurricane Rosa which is still progged to spread into
the area next week. Still awaiting the details to become more clear
as confidence in model solutions increase, but it looks like there
will be a potential for heavy rain across portions of the area
during the first half of next week.
